[04:39:40] <Macer> so i just used a fbsd image from joyent
[04:39:43] <Macer> and it is like 10GB
[04:40:59] <Macer> am i missing something here? is there a way to install the image and have a larger disk?
[04:54:38] <Macer> it would be nice if vmadm had numbers for the uuids
[04:54:48] <Macer> copying them and pasting them is a pain
[04:55:26] *** axonpoet <axonpoet!~axonpoet@fsf/member/axonpoet> has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 272 seconds)
[05:12:00] <Macer> i can't figure out a way to expand the drive
[05:44:43] <rzezeski> Macer: you should see a zvol named zones/<UUID>-disk0, you can increase the volsize property to increase the zvol size, but then you'll also have to teach the guest to see the larger volume
[05:45:05] <Macer> yes
[05:45:11] <Macer> i just finished doing that for a fbsd VM heh
[05:45:20] <rzezeski> Since you are using a freebsd guest, if you are using ZFS on the guest as well then you could just add another disk via vmadm and then add that to your guest zpool
[05:45:44] <Macer> the image doesn't use zfs
[05:45:53] <Macer> i used the joyent vm image and it uses ufs
[05:46:18] <Macer> which is moot in this case. i managed to make it 64GB
[05:46:28] <rzezeski> okay, I've never used our FreeBSD images
[05:46:36] <Macer> but i may actually just try to use some flavor of linux instead. i'm just playing with smartos right now
[05:48:18] <Macer> i'm going to work on it now and see about getting my stuff going again. so far so good
[05:48:23] <Macer> i have a VM working so that's progress
[05:54:02] <rzezeski> SmartOS is very different from other operating systems, even when compared to its close kin like OpenIndiana (formerly known as OpenSolaris). Its opinionated and takes some getting used to. I've been using it 6ish years and it feels like home at this point. Anyways, glad you good past your first hurdle.
[06:09:40] <jbk> you've taken your first step into a larger world :P
[07:45:19] <Macer> heh
[07:45:22] <Macer> i'm still working on them
[07:45:27] <Macer> but it's pretty straightforward
[07:45:34] <Macer> so far i managed to get a fbsd and centos 7 vm working
[07:45:47] <Macer> i'd like to see what zones look like.. maybe that would be more efficient for the linux stuff
[07:45:56] <Macer> well... vs kvms
[07:46:20] <Macer> the kvm stuff is a bit more familiar.. make a vm and be done with it.. i've never used other solaris methods of making them

[18:28:58] <jrg> I’ll take a look now. at least kvm is running like a champ.
[18:29:58] <duncan^> I guess not all of those are applicable to SmartOS, though - I guess it answers the syscall question.
[18:31:01] <duncan^> https://wiki.smartos.org/display/DOC/Zones is more relevant.
