[00:03:07] <Nomi> Okay, worth the try ...do you already have someone for the text to speech in mortville manor? maybe that is a better first gsoc then :)

[00:25:43] <_sev> right, but debugging is definitely not for the GSoC
[00:26:10] <Strangerke> loveistrash: We'd prefer that Supernova2 is implemented on top of the existing engine, with some refactoring to separate properly the hardcoded logic from both games
[00:27:25] <Strangerke> criezy: right?
[00:27:54] <criezy> loveistrash: that being said, you can have your own opinion and suggest otherwise in your application if you have a good reason and argumentation for it.

[00:38:31] <loveistrash> by looking at the source, both games(msn1 and msn2) share the same code base, so I don't think making a separate project would be a nice idea :)
[00:38:52] <loveistrash> I am gonna stick with Strangerke's idea
[00:40:36] <criezy> I think it is a sound approach.
[00:40:42] <criezy> And that means you need to plan some time for refactoring of the existing engine in your schedule, and think about how you would refactor it.
[00:42:44] <Nomi> @criezy: Thanks! So I might apply for that, seems like a fine task for a beginning. At least I think I got some ideas how to manage it :D

[00:48:51] <Deledrius> Cyan Inc.: We don't support or condone the use of tools like ScummVM. More details about the product will be available in the next few weeks.
[00:48:58] <Deledrius> >_<
[00:49:09] <Deledrius> What a disappointing attitude
[00:49:21] <criezy> loveistrash, Nomi: I would suggest you don't wait until the last moment to upload a draft for your applications so that we can take a look and make suggestions and comments to help you improve them before the application deadline.

[02:43:15] <bgK> Deledrius: regarding the announced Myst re-release, I don't think Cyan needs to do much of an effort. For Myst I, they can use realMyst ME 2 pretty much as is. For Riven, they have the iOS / Android engine. Exile, Revelation, URU and V probably don't need much changes to the original source code to work on modern Windows.
[02:44:31] <bgK> Riven iOS was recently updated. I don't think it's a hazard.

[13:58:15] <Joefish> urrrghghggh... sometimes you should just listen to what the compiler has to say.. I couldn't store a SeekAudioStream as AudioStream although it is its base class. So I assumed there may be a problem with dynamic_cast becuase scummvm is compiled without RTTI and it does a runtime type check over the vtbl (what I found quite eerie but have seen stranger things before). Then looking closer at makeRawStream, then
[13:58:15] <Joefish> SeekAudioStream.. hmm in decoders/raw.h it is only forward declared. I haven't included audiostream.h.. now works.. yay? T_T

[16:03:56] <L0ngcat> Maniac Mansion and COMI are now for sale on gog!
[16:27:08] <bonki> Nice! Is there actually a point in buying Maniac Mansion seperately, though? The DOTT remaster costs only slightly more and includes the original DOTT and while I have not double-checked I would assume it therefore also includes MM
[16:28:57] <bonki> separately*

[17:00:45] <Strangerke|work> I can't say it doesn't happen, but that's something we prefer to avoid before the engine is supported
[17:06:00] <whiterandrek> Thanks. I needed this for random numbers. Are there any func like rand except Common::RandomSource?

[17:09:47] <bonki> what's wrong with Common::RandomSource?
[17:12:41] <whiterandrek> Nothing wrong, just don't want to declare a reference from engine class in small object.

[17:22:28] <L0ngcat> bonki: The maniac mansion version on Steam does not include the game executable, and is as such impossible to play without ScummVM. The gog version includes the enhanced edition with executable, and the original without executable in a separate folder. In case anyone was wondering, they are using ScummVM to run both MM and COMI.

[17:37:31] <L0ngcat> But only the enchanced edition
[17:38:13] <L0ngcat> I can't imagine WHY, but some people might want to buy MM and not DOTT or DOTT Remastered
[17:38:46] <L0ngcat> I thought your question was if there are more versions included?
[17:38:54] <bonki> yes, which is why I said that if you want the original as well (if it's included) you will still want to buy MM separately :) so good that you confirmed that

[17:39:33] <L0ngcat> which is not included in DOTT
[17:39:34] <bonki> fwiw, the DOTT remaster is actually worth buying as opposed to that Simon crap
[17:39:37] <bonki> right
[17:39:54] <L0ngcat> I prefer DOTT original
[17:40:22] <L0ngcat> I liked the remastered audio in full throttle, but I still prefer the original there as well
[17:41:09] <L0ngcat> anything from MojoTouch is horrendous crap and gog should be ashamed of putting up with their crap
[17:41:16] <bonki> agreed
[17:41:48] <L0ngcat> Thankfully, I already own the legacy editions
[17:42:18] <bonki> apart from them being crap I also think they are way overpriced
[17:42:34] <bonki> I bought both Simon I and II for like 6 EUR in a store and that was 20 years ago
[17:43:04] <bonki> 6 EUR total, that is
[17:44:01] <bonki> and that was including the usual stuff (shiny box, manual, ...)
[17:46:21] <bonki> the biggest problem I have with that move is that they will remove the originals from the store, I would care less if they didn't do that. now you will _have_ to buy the mojotouch versions if you want to buy the originals which means supporting mojotouch
[17:50:33] <bonki> which is OK if you like the new versions but otherwise not so much
[17:52:44] <bonki> let's just hope they will play fair and publish the sourcecode on their website which they actually do for the mobile apps
