[01:32:37] <knoba> phoenixz: when asked to provide your config, please provide a SINGLE pastebin (see !pastebin) with postconf -nf and postconf -Mf. if your version is too old for those commands to work (< 2.9), you should upgrade, but see !showconfig_old
[01:37:07] <phoenixz> Hi all, I have a postfix server that needs to be able to receive (for example) a mail for the mysql alias info at mysite dot com, and then send that to usera at mysite dot com, and userb at gmail dot com. Problem is that the usera is sent, but for userb, postfix complains about "User unknown" and never even tries to send it to gmail. See https://pastebin.com/Hqt339DU for configuration and a relevant log output
[01:38:42] <rob0> BTW forwarding to gmail is usually not a good idea, since you WILL get spam
[01:38:50] <phoenixz> I've googled and run through manuals for hours and I'm quite honestly stumped at what this could be. Anybody got an idea?
[01:40:11] <phoenixz> Hi rob0: Yes, that one I am aware of and in this speciifc case its a temporary thing since we're setting up some quick communication. It was in this one that I actually found the issue, then i started testing for other aliases and found the same issue. I'm just still testing with this one, but will remove the gmail one or that mail server will be blacklisted within the week yeah :)
[01:42:05] <phoenixz> I am stumped though on why postfix tries to search for external domains on the local machine instead of sending them to the external domains
[01:42:45] <rob0> So spamc and/or Dovecot seems to have the problem, not knowing the user.
[01:43:52] <phoenixz> mmm, isn't it postfix that is saying the "bounced" thing?
[01:43:57] <rob0> developers@briskcrypt was aliased, I think your alias works fine
[01:45:20] <phoenixz> yes, they are aliased and the target domains, if they are handled by this mx1 server, arrive correctly. However, if the source mail targets to a domain that is not handled by this mail server, it says user unknown
[01:45:49] <rob0> virtual_mailbox_domains = mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql-virtual-mailbox-domains.cf
[01:45:56] <rob0> !postmapq
[01:45:56] <knoba> rob0: You can check your lookups with the postmap command. Example: if you defined transport_maps = mysql:/etc/postfix/transport.cf you may check this mapping by running postmap -q example.com mysql:/etc/postfix/transport.cf and see if it works.
[01:46:00] <phoenixz> so if I were to add source test at a dot com > test2 at a dot com, and test at a dot com > test at gmail dot com, then the former goes well, the latter borks
[01:46:19] <rob0> postmap -q gmail.com mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql-virtual-mailbox-domains.cf
[01:46:46] <rob0> should return nothing and exit 1
[01:47:13] <phoenixz> That is correct, I ran the command and it returns nothing, exits 1
[01:48:21] <phoenixz> btw, this problem is not only limited to gmail, its apparently to any outside domain as a target @live.co.uk gives the same issue
[01:48:50] <rob0> well, I'd try without the content_filter
[01:49:05] <rob0> first step for spam control should be postscreen
[01:49:16] <rob0> !postscreen
[01:49:16] <knoba> rob0: SMTP triage server available since Postfix 2.8, see http://www.postfix.org/POSTSCREEN_README.html and http://www.postfix.org/postscreen.8.html
[01:49:23] <phoenixz> So disable smapassassin
[01:49:24] <rob0> !cheatsheet
[01:49:24] <knoba> rob0: (#1) http://jimsun.linxnet.com/misc/postfix-anti-UCE.txt : A HOWTO for pre-DATA spam control., or (#2) http://rob0.nodns4.us/postscreen.html , a postscreen spam control HOWTO
[01:49:43] <rob0> Then if you still want/need content filtering,
[01:49:52] <rob0> !amavisd-new
[01:49:53] <knoba> rob0: amavisd-new is a high-performance and reliable interface between mailer (MTA) and one or more content checkers. See http://www.ijs.si/software/amavisd/
[01:50:32] <phoenixz> We're definitely going to need spamfiltering yeah
[01:50:42] <rob0> see, you seem to have set up Dovecot LMTP, but the content_filter is bypassing it
[01:50:44] <phoenixz> Amavis != spamassasin wrapper?
[01:51:41] <rob0> basically yes, it speaks SMTP or LMTP, runs SA as perl modules, and can optionally plug in other filters.
[01:53:59] <rob0> I'd have more to comment about yoru config, but a bit short of time ATM
[01:54:15] <phoenixz> May I ask a possibly noob question, but I have no idea how to google this one.. So postconf -Mf shows a table smtp... submission... etc.. This is the routes emails take, right? They come in, then first do smtp, submission, etc.. is this correct?
[01:54:19] <rob0> if you hang around I will get to it later or tomorrow
[01:54:41] <phoenixz> And if so, the -o after smtp basically says hey, skip the rest, go to the spamassassin entry right away?
[01:54:49] <rob0> maybe "man 5 master" will explain that
[01:54:49] <phoenixz> Okay, understood, thanks anyway! I'll be here tomorrow!
[01:54:57] <phoenixz> Thanks!
[01:55:27] <rob0> the -o means "option" or "override", it overrides what is already set for that
[01:56:21] <phoenixz> Okay, perfect! I'll take this part and see where I can go from from here. I'll be here anyway tomorrow in case you have some other imrpovement tips.
[01:56:22] <phoenixz> Thanks lots!
[01:56:46] <lunaphyte> did you read the man page for postconf too?
[01:56:53] <lunaphyte> it tells you what M and f do
[01:58:39] <phoenixz> lunaphyte: On those too now
[01:59:08] <rob0> the -o means "option" or "override", it overrides what is already set for that option
[01:59:40] <rob0> in the case of content_filter default is "" (empty)
[02:05:24] <phoenixz> Okay. Going to read into those and try disabling the filtering
