[10:19:50] <tuxmartin> Hi, I need to create report every 24 hours. In report I need username who send mails and number of mails. How can I do that? Is there any existing tool? Or is possible to use pflogsumm?

[18:51:08] <FortunateSon> that out*
[18:51:33] <rob0> Your limited host (identified by check_client_access) would invoke a restriction class which does check_recipient_access.
[18:52:32] <rob0> The check_recipient_access lookup would return permit_sasl_authenticated for permitted destination.
[18:52:50] <rob0> Then the restriction class would have a "reject" at the end.
[18:54:31] <rob0> Probably a saner way to do this is with check_sasl_access rather than check_client_access, but still have a restriction class with the check_recipient_access and reject.

[20:35:59] <et09> ah.
[20:36:10] <et09> so it's the master.cf port setting i bet
[20:36:15] <rob0> If you are a mail exchanger, yes you MUST have 25 open.
[20:36:35] <et09> 587 inet n - y - - smtpd
[20:36:44] <et09> should there be also smtpd inet n [..etc...]
[20:36:54] <et09> er, smtp
[20:37:07] <rob0> yes, that is wrong
[20:37:14] <rob0> !submission
[20:37:14] <knoba> rob0: "submission" : Port 587 is submission, for user submission of mail, NOT suitable for mail exchange. See the commented example in master.cf. also see !msa, and rfc 6409. Also read http://www.maawg.org/sites/maawg/files/news/MAAWG_Port25rec0511.pdf
[20:37:31] <et09> there, now it works.
[20:37:34] <et09> thanks
[20:37:39] <rob0> Submission should require TLS and AUTH and reject anything else.
[20:38:00] <rob0> Smtp should not offer nor accept AUTH.

[21:04:58] <et09> ah - deprecated i see - nevermind
[21:05:13] <et09> (i think)
[21:05:52] <rob0> well, recently,
[21:05:58] <rob0> !submissions
[21:05:58] <knoba> rob0: "submissions" : RFC 8314 renames the old smtps port, 465/tcp, to submissions, with implicit TLS rather than explicit STARTTLS via a plaintext TCP connection. Postfix can implement submissions with a separate smtpd(8) listener with \" -o smtpd_tls_wrappermode=yes\". See the commented example in master.cf.
[21:07:17] <rob0> You can do submission either way, wrappermode or STARTTLS.
[21:07:30] <et09> got it
[21:07:53] <rob0> Some thing the initial plaintext connection is good, some do not.
[21:09:10] <rob0> From a mail server operator's perspective, I think the initial plaintext connection doesn't hurt, helps to weed out bad clients and poorly-coded attack bots.

[22:08:02] <peb`> hey, I have an email service with a domain example.com with two kinds of users: local ones, and aliases' ones, the latter having asked me to receive their emails to them to their own mailbox, and so my server just bounce the mails sent to them to their addresses. The thing is that I'd like to avoid non-authorized emails to be forwarded to them. So I'm considering having a kind of whitelist of senders whose
[22:08:05] <peb`> emails are allowed to be forwarded to them, and otherwise, the emails are dropped by my server. This would not impact local delivery to local users
[22:08:12] <peb`> what's the best way to achieve such a purpose?
[22:09:48] <rob0> well, I don't know what "non-authorized emails" means, but it sounds like you're running afoul of some of our mantras:
[22:09:51] <rob0> !mantras
[22:09:51] <knoba> rob0: "mantras" : 1. do not accept mail that you do not intend to deliver. 2. do not drop mail. 3. do not use wildcards or catchalls. 4. do not forward mail to outside/third party systems
[22:12:16] <peb`> Hm, I was meaning rejected instead of dropped. I guess you also consider that my current situation is against 4?

[23:19:49] <teward> et09: i'm not sure we can answer without more details. From Postfix's perspective, I've seen it have a failed MX attempt, and then it tries the @domain.tld from the "to" email in the envelope, but I can't say that's a 'normal' process, especially if, say, the 'domain' running services on 25, 587, etc. is not the same server as domain.tld (from the foo at domain dot tld destination address)
[23:20:21] <teward> this is, however, only my observations from when I was doing a test 'lab' environment to see what would happen if records were missing, etc. but I can't say that that is necessarily the 'gold standard' of behavior

[23:20:39] <teward> and without more details of the specific case you are asking about i can't give you a clear answer
[23:25:45] <rob0> peb`, the point of the mantra is that when your user gets spam and it's forwarded, the receiving server might consider YOU the spam source.
[23:26:51] <rob0> et09, first thing, 587 is NEVER used in mail exchange. Mail exchange is ALWAYS and ONLY to port 25.
[23:27:15] *** daynaskully <daynaskully!~dskull@unaffiliated/daynaskully> has joined #postfix
[23:27:51] <rob0> Second thing, no, if the MX host does not exist or does not answer, no proper MTA would go to the A/AAAA.
[23:45:52] <peb`> rob0: I get your point. Yet, If my user has a local account and puts a forward file in his home it'll cause the same issue, won't it ?Thus, assuming that I can't change the way things are done immediately, I still need to avoid the spam forwarding. How should I proceed ?
[23:50:45] <rob0> The technical issues are not easy to solve. It might be better handled as a political issue. :)
[23:51:37] <rob0> Technically, you can fix it by delivering locally, and having your users set up POP3 (yuck) retrievers from gmail.
[23:52:14] <rob0> (but that's not purely technical, of course, you have to get the users' cooperation.)
