[10:00:31] <nexybot> New news from http://www.nexenta.org/projects/site/boards?format=atom: Help: // all in one vm zfs-storage server // based on xen or vmware4 + virtualized nexenta + napp... <http://www.nexenta.org/boards/1/topics/293>
[10:46:34] <nexybot> New news from nexentaplanet: Bill Moore joins Nexenta advisory board <http://blogs.nexenta.org/blog/2010/04/11/bill-moore-joins-nexenta-advisory-board-3/>

[11:09:18] <JagWaugh> My plan would be Nex as the OS, then virtualizing from within NEX to make MS or Linux machines.
[11:10:26] <JagWaugh> Booting hardware into vmware doesn't make all that much sense for a SOHO scenario. You don't really need more than the one physical machine.

[11:48:13] <JagWaugh> I have _almost_ got installing Nex from USB to work...
[11:49:24] <gea> you are right. the best way is nexenta as base + virtualisation on top. bur: if i want to have it now, stable, simple - all with pci-passthrough - i see no other way
[11:49:26] <gea> than -than use esxi as base system
[11:50:10] <JagWaugh> I know what you mean.
[11:50:44] <JagWaugh> particularily as you already have the vmware in your environment.
[11:53:05] <gea> ii will hope, to use xen4 later. but it is not as simple than esxi now.
[11:55:42] <JagWaugh> yes
[11:56:37] <JagWaugh> this may sound like a really strange idea but.... for SoHo use where the user isn't a propellorhead....
[11:57:32] <JagWaugh> a very small partition with MS SBS installed as normal
[11:58:51] <JagWaugh> but the system booting NEX with zfs then "running" the SBS from within that would gain a lot of popularity.
[11:59:27] <JagWaugh> As soon as vmware or such appears then the non propellorheads will just buy more disks...
[11:59:29] <JagWaugh> :-)
[12:07:08] <gea> lets go years ahead. a server will be a computer with virtualization in bios together with a small managemnt os (call it dom0 now) with storage and base functions and other os on top.
[12:07:10] <gea> i want to have this now. nexenta with web-gui, simple like a wlan router, is a ideal base system, especially in the storage part.
[12:07:12] <gea> other apps are better in other os's, say sbs, win7, debian (vdr video server) or other (hackintosh??)
[12:14:00] <JagWaugh> Openwrt, with zfs and virtualization...
[12:15:30] <gea> yes, thats what i want to have
[12:16:04] <JagWaugh> ok... then get to work.
[12:16:05] <JagWaugh> :-)
[12:17:45] <gea> lets dream about less complexity. but thats the way it must go
[12:25:07] <JagWaugh> I agree
