[16:13:57] <bluesfreak72> I'm still trying to get this thing going. I've decided to jump back to Elatte (1.0.1). I have the network configured - although not with wpa_supplicant yet. I have installed xorg and am trying to install gnome. The FAQ on the nexenta.org site says to do 'apt-get install gnome-core', but that doesn't find the package. How do I install gnome?
[16:14:22] *** Bicster has left ##nexenta
[16:17:15] <anilg> bluesfreak72: you need to add the repository befire installing gnome-core
[16:17:20] <anilg> before*
[16:17:46] <bluesfreak72> Which repository is it?
[16:17:57] <anilg> add a deb line in /etc/apt/sources.list .. copy the elatte line and change elatte-stable to hardy-unstable
[16:18:06] <bluesfreak72> ok
[16:18:07] *** pino has joined ##nexenta
[16:18:14] <anilg> the newer gnome and xfce bits are in hardy-unstable
[16:19:48] <bluesfreak72> I figured it was something like that.
[16:20:12] <bluesfreak72> That did it.
[16:25:14] <andy_js> bluesfreak72: let us know how GNOME runs.
[16:25:42] * andy_js had problems with the panel segfaulting
[16:27:41] <bluesfreak72> I will as soon as gnome-core and gdm finishes installing.
[16:29:46] <bluesfreak72> BTW, I've been using '/usr/bin/shutdown' to shutdown. Is there a better way to shutdown or reboot?
[16:30:31] <lesterc> does NCP has the 3.3 xen stuff yet?

[16:44:22] <bluesfreak72> Here's a pastebin: http://pastebin.com/m3dd4a00f
[16:44:26] <bluesfreak72> How do I fix this?
[16:47:46] <anilg> hmm.. looks like the new sunw* (kernel) bits are also being pulled in..
[16:47:57] <anilg> effectively upgrading your system to NCP2
[16:48:08] <bluesfreak72> Ok.
[16:48:11] <anilg> can you paste the full
[16:48:14] <anilg> o/p
[16:48:51] <bluesfreak72> Previous to what I pasted it was just pulling packages off the repository. It hasn't gone past that point yet.
[16:49:10] <anilg> I want to know what packages..
[16:49:20] <bluesfreak72> There are 224 of them.
[16:50:34] <bluesfreak72> I believe it's got all the packages it finds with a 'apt-get install gnome-core'. That's the command I used.
[16:52:23] <anilg> one way ahead is apt-clone install gnome-core
[16:52:39] <anilg> this will take a backup of your current system state and then install gnome-core
[16:52:44] <bluesfreak72> I'll give that one a shot.
[16:54:20] <bluesfreak72> *rebooting*
[16:54:47] <bluesfreak72> Ok - maybe not.
[17:02:12] <bluesfreak72> 'Upgrade sequence returned an error. To enter NLU protected environment, please type 'source /tmp/nlubin/env.sh''
[17:03:00] <bluesfreak72> 'Upgrade failed. Would you like to rollback changes now? (y/n)'
[17:07:44] <anilg> the gnome-core bits are meant for NCP2.. so there could've been incompatibilites when you tried to install on NCP1
[17:08:26] <anilg> you can apt-clone dist-upgrade; apt-get install gnome-core
[17:08:31] <anilg> that will update NCP1 to 2 and then install gnome-core
[17:08:40] <bluesfreak72> Ok I'll give that a shot.

[23:20:30] <montcalm> Hi everyone. I'm not sure where to post this problem. Nexenta 1.0x runs fine under qemu/kvm with kernel build 86, but the 2.0rc1 crashes with a kernel panick on both kvm and qemu.
[23:24:41] <PinkFreud> hmmm. I have it running under kvm without an issue.
[23:25:27] <montcalm> Can I post my kvm command line and see if there's something I can do differently?
[23:27:11] <PinkFreud> if it fits on one line, I'd imagine no one would mind
[23:27:20] <montcalm> kvm -curses -localtime -m 1024 -cpu pentium3 -net user -net nic,model=rtl8139 -no-reboot -hda nexenta.img -cdrom nexenta.iso -boot d
[23:27:44] <PinkFreud> why -cpu pentium3?
[23:28:40] <PinkFreud> also, try setting your nic model to e1000
[23:28:41] *** proteusguy_ has joined ##nexenta
[23:28:47] <montcalm> I've tried coreduo and gotten the same result, so I tried pentium3 last time
[23:29:06] <PinkFreud> you can probably leave out the -cpu argument
[23:32:44] <montcalm> Same kernel panick.
[23:51:36] <PinkFreud> kvm -hda nexenta.img -cdrom nexenta-core-platform_2.0-b104-rc1_x86.iso -m 2048 -boot c -net nic,macaddr=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx,model=e1000 -net tap,ifname=tap3 -vnc 127.0.0.1:xx -pidfile nexenta.pid
