[00:39:59] <RM982> guys, I have a very annoying issue, I don't know what causes it but some features of my IDE just disappear
[00:40:39] <RM982> ie: the left column with the lines numbers, also I'm unable to search (ctrl+f does nothing)
[00:40:55] <RM982> then I restart the IDE and it gets back to normal
[01:03:29] <netbeans-slack> <wadechandler> RM982 are you using Windows? Or what OS? If Linux, what is your UI setup? Sometimes UI drivers can play an issue like that.
[01:06:16] <RM982> yes it is windows 10
[01:31:34] <netbeans-slack> <wadechandler> RM982 if you look in your log file, do you see any related exceptions? Do your graphics get messed up with any other Swing apps? In the past, there have been times I have needed to explicitly update graphics drivers for specific windows machines when I bought them. When that happened certain apps that use certain graphics APIs could make the CPU heat up plus other things, including JVM crashes.
[01:32:28] <netbeans-slack> <wadechandler> What version of the JDK are you using? You can find the one NB is using in the log too; as well as Help|About
[01:35:38] <netbeans-slack> <wadechandler> Other times I have had to tweak my graphics card settings; different options and overlays etc on different cards.
[01:36:10] <netbeans-slack> <wadechandler> Or, it could be a 3rd party plugin in NB acting up.
[01:36:22] <netbeans-slack> <wadechandler> You prob see that in the log file
[01:36:47] <netbeans-slack> <wadechandler> "Would" probably see it in the log
[01:40:07] <RM982> Product Version: NetBeans IDE 8.2 (Build 201609300101)
[01:40:16] <RM982> Java: 1.8.0_101; Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 25.101-b13
[01:40:26] <RM982> Runtime: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 1.8.0_101-b13
[01:40:35] <RM982> System: Windows 10 version 10.0 running on amd64; Cp1252; en_US (nb)
[01:41:43] <RM982> can't find any log file, where is supposed to be stored?
[01:47:43] <netbeans-slack> <wadechandler> There are NB updates out there too, but don't rem seeing such issues with 8.2 on my mac. The log will be in the application directory for the user; can't rem where that is on Win 10; been a bit for me, but in the IDE, you can find it under the View menu
[01:50:05] <netbeans-slack> <wadechandler> The application info directory, let see if I can find that loc.
[01:50:37] <netbeans-slack> <wadechandler> It will def be user the %USERPROFILE% dir, but a subpath
[01:51:02] <netbeans-slack> <wadechandler> Be under not be user...typos from my phone
[01:53:57] <netbeans-slack> <wadechandler> There are JDK updates avail too I think...like 141 or something is the latest
[01:54:31] <netbeans-slack> <wadechandler> https://stackoverflow.com/questions/40527380/jvm-crash-windows-10-need-help-to-understand-the-log-file. It looks like this person had a funky graphics card related issue
[01:56:01] <netbeans-slack> <wadechandler> I think the for win 7 should be the same less the NB version in the path too http://wiki.netbeans.org/FaqLogMessagesFile
[01:56:31] <netbeans-slack> <wadechandler> The dir for win 7
[01:56:43] <netbeans-slack> <wadechandler> ...shown in that wiki page
[02:01:20] <RM982> I have some warnings only
[02:02:57] <RM982> http://paste.debian.net/981688/
[02:02:58] <javabot> RM982's title: "debian Pastezone"
[02:11:17] *** echelog <echelog!~echelog@108.61.103.42> has joined #netbeans
[02:16:54] <netbeans-slack> <wadechandler> Yeah, that sounds like something external to NetBeans. What computer brand and model number is it?
[02:19:10] <netbeans-slack> <wadechandler> The key map warning is interesting. Any others like that or others related to mouse events by chance?
[02:20:37] <netbeans-slack> <wadechandler> That missing key map seems to suggest something in your user directory, parent of the var dir from the log path, may be corrupt (may be). Have you used NB on this machine well before these issues started happening or no?
[02:26:53] <RM982> it is an i5 sandy bridge K series
[02:27:37] <RM982> I think IDE worked properly for a while but I am not 100% sure
[02:29:57] <RM982> no other warnings
[02:46:56] <RM982> I need to take some sleep, thanks for your help anyway
