[04:56:35] <Ionic> I wonder... do we have anything in place to prohibit ports doing the equivalent of rm -rf /?
[05:07:21] <irker951> jmr base:master * 90893e5 / src/package1.0/tests/portmpkg.test: Mock getportresourcepath for portmpkg.test https://git.io/vDDDd
[05:07:58] <jmr_mp> nope, the Tcl code can do whatever if it really wants to
[05:09:09] <Ionic> given that we've "fixed" buildbot issues with that before, yeah...
[05:09:46] <jmr_mp> stuff executed with system is sandboxed, and most things run as the macports user
[05:10:07] <jmr_mp> but if you want to be malicious, just do it in Tcl during destroot
[05:11:32] <jmr_mp> I would guess most if not all of the stray files were left from before sandboxing though
[05:11:34] <Ionic> and ripping that out would be problematic as well, as we're installing launchd agents and daemons, just as an example
[05:12:05] <Ionic> I haven't seen stray files or even "turds" in ages
[05:12:10] <jmr_mp> yes, since a port can potentially install any file...
[05:13:18] <Ionic> pretty good reason for having a selection process for developers
[05:16:23] <jmr_mp> now if we had a working fakeroot
[05:17:07] <jmr_mp> but ironically SIP makes that impossible without the silly copy-everything workaround
[05:17:56] <jmr_mp> post-activate code would still be a problem though
[05:19:09] *** Guest12196 <Guest12196!~hazzard@142.54.173.74> has left #macports
[05:19:09] <Ionic> yeah...
[05:22:51] <Ionic> oh
[05:23:17] <Ionic> I just found a base bug (though I'm not sure if it really should count as one)
[05:24:14] <Ionic> if a port installed ${prefix}/a, port provides ${prefix}/A will fail, while port provides ${prefix}/a will correctly list that port
[05:24:46] <Ionic> it probably should take case-sensitivity into account when doing the lookup
[05:25:48] <Ionic> but that's not all
[05:25:59] <Ionic> trace mode seems to be thrown off by that as well
[05:27:40] <Ionic> concrete example: ghc tries to include "GC.h", meaning to include its own GC.h header file
[05:28:41] <Ionic> instead, though, the compiler finds /opt/local/include/GC.h, because a.) my file system is case-insensitive and b.) -I/opt/local/include is passed before other, build-private locations...
[05:29:05] <Ionic> normally trace mode would deny a read to that file, but given that base can't map it to an installed port, access to it is allowed
[05:29:23] <Ionic> ... as boehmgc only installed /opt/local/include/gc.h
[05:31:00] <Ionic> the irony is that trace mode finally kicks in, as /opt/local/include/gc.h is including <gc/gc.h>, which is then recognized as installed by another port not part of ghc's dependencies
[05:42:20] <Ionic> but fixing that is difficult, as we'd have to find out whether the FS is cs or cis first and there seems to be no common API to do so
[05:44:01] <Ionic> hey, could be done using getattrlist()
[05:46:49] <Ionic> ... at least on OS X *sigh*
[05:47:02] <Ionic> and some BSD-flavors
[05:49:20] <Ionic> but we could make sure the file exists, convert the path (or just the base name) to lowercase and check for it's existance again

[09:55:59] <Ionic> for ASCII characters only...
[09:56:13] <Ionic> I don't know why, but it obviously doesn't work
[09:56:27] <Ionic> http://stackoverflow.com/questions/973541/how-to-set-sqlite3-to-be-case-insensitive-when-string-comparing#comment22403022_973785 I think that's why
[09:57:30] <Ionic> LIKE only seems to be matching case-insensitively (and only for ASCII characters) when sqlite3 has been compiled with ICU support
[09:57:36] <Ionic> I don't think we're doing that
[09:57:50] <neverpanic> we use system sqlite3, so that might be compiled against ice
[09:58:08] <Ionic> ah
[10:00:25] <Ionic> hmmm... "The LIKE operator is case sensitive by default for unicode characters that are beyond the ASCII range. For example, the expression 'a' LIKE 'A' is TRUE but 'æ' LIKE 'Æ' is FALSE. The ICU extension to SQLite includes an enhanced version of the LIKE operator that does case folding across all unicode characters."
[10:06:40] <neverpanic> So since we don't expect unicode in our filenames, LIKE is fine.
[10:08:43] <Ionic> uh why would you say that?
[10:09:09] <Ionic> I'd expect non-ASCII chars

[22:41:17] <neverpanic> Ionic: I just did csearch -f Portfile OpenSSLException
[22:41:30] <neverpanic> Ionic: So if the bracketed version is wrong, everybody gets it wrong
[22:41:58] <neverpanic> In theory, you'd be right, it's GPL-2.0+ & OpenSSLException (actually GPL-2.0+ WITH OpenSSLException, but we can't represent that)
[22:42:49] <neverpanic> But port_binary_distributable.tcl doesn't know about exceptions to GPL, so the way our 'GPL-2.0 with OpenSSLException' is modeled is that they are alternatives and GPL-2.0 conflicts with OpenSSL, but OpenSSLException does not.
[22:43:22] <neverpanic> So port_binary_distributable.tcl sees GPL-2.0 with OpenSSL in a dependency, concludes that's not an option and backtracks into combining OpenSSLException with OpenSSL
[22:43:27] <Ionic> meh

[22:43:44] <Ionic> okay, I wasn't aware of that...

[23:18:28] <geekosaur> but is it implemented in tcl? :p
[23:18:36] <neverpanic> you'd probably need to throw some pretty big guns at the relationsips between the licenses to figure out if there are conflicts, though
[23:19:00] <neverpanic> No. It's not much more complicated than writing a calculator in Tcl, though.
