[13:14:15] <jlevon> not following, the size from the header IS the array size surely?
[13:16:52] <tsoome> yes, I meant, you do not have to know what data is in there, you get the size from the header and can just dump the bag of bytes.

[15:03:13] <jimklimov> curious. If someone rmembers the iscsi (with Linux target) problem I was woeing about a few days ago - not sure if it is the same situation, but I had a hiccup again. The target driver was up, the initiator from OI had a session, but no disk to be seen :( Then I looked at linux side `tgtadm --mode target --op show` and saw "Backing store path: None"
[15:04:01] <jimklimov> so my `tgt.service` started before the `sdb.device` was seen; restarting the service got the disk seen from OI side nearly instantly; hopefully the added drop-in config to cement the dependency would help after reboots

[17:20:15] <tsoome> for sequence; i did set this SPCR to be done before anything else, so we get text as default and serial from SPCR, then when interpreter will start, it will read /boot/solaris/bootenv.rc and the loader conf + scripts
[17:20:36] <jlevon> so right now it'll never apply to a newly installed system

[17:21:47] <tsoome> it is currently unknown how many system it will cover, and how many would need current setup
[17:22:04] <tsoome> how many systems*
[17:22:08] <jlevon> that's what I'm thinking we need console=spcr or something
[17:22:17] <jlevon> a way to actually use it
[17:22:22] <jlevon> and also expose it to the OS
[17:22:34] <tsoome> I'm reluctant about new alternate console name.
[17:22:52] <tsoome> not against it, but seeing the confusion in freebsd...
[17:24:02] <tsoome> anyhow, IMO it is perfectly OK to have overrides, after all, SPCR is "just" to have way to know what was set in BIOS setup.
[17:26:01] <jlevon> except like this, nobody will ever see it
[17:26:24] <jlevon> you don't expose it anywhere at all unless somebody boldly goes and deletes all 'console' configuration :)
[17:26:42] <jlevon> I share your concerns with yet another way to configure the console, for sure.
[17:27:09] <tsoome> yes, except.... I have deeper idea there - this setup does cover io port hw. how about memory mapped ones, when we get UART device
[17:27:32] <jlevon> but for example the code I have that literally guesses the console in the kernel - it would be nice if that could see what the spcr said and choose that.
[17:27:52] <jlevon> good question but maybe orthogonal
[17:28:33] <tsoome> once the details are nailed, we can adopt defaults, if needed.
[17:34:00] <tsoome> there is also UEFI case, we have console devices listed in ConOut/ConIn, but mapping serial devices to ttya-ttyd is a bit of pain (will need testing). uart will need additional effort...

[22:23:16] <Woodstock> hm yes, i should try that
[22:24:02] <rmustacc> though with the caveat that it could just be different things.
[22:24:19] <rmustacc> There was a major ACPI update in 2018/2019.
