[00:15:19] <LeftWing> toasterson: I know a bit about it
[00:15:28] <LeftWing> In fact, I'm rewriting it at the moment :P
[00:15:49] <LeftWing> When you say they cannot be accessed by the OS
[00:15:58] <LeftWing> What do you mean exactly?
[00:19:19] <toasterson> we had c5t0d0 which went bad a few weeks ago. We now replaced that disk in the Host os (Linux) and rewrote the kvm xml to insert the new disk into the same position on the pci bus as the old one. (Leave the generated bus section in) Now when i try to do zpool replace pool c5t0d0 it complains that it cannot add c21t0d0 to the pool again. and when i try to do zdb -l (dump labels) it fails with io error cannot access disk.

[00:45:53] <rmustacc> toasterson: Is it possible that it's marked as retired or fault in fma?
[00:46:04] <rmustacc> It sounds a bit like it's in the retire store.
[00:46:46] <toasterson> hrrm possible i used zpool offline on the disk. though one needs to use zpool replace instead of zpool online
[00:48:58] <rmustacc> Is there anyhting in fmadm faulty?

[00:52:21] <toasterson> nope
[00:53:35] <LeftWing> My suspicion is that the code that determines whether the disk is in use may use the devid to de-duplicate paths to devices
[00:53:53] <LeftWing> And the vioblk driver currently suffers from https://www.illumos.org/issues/10012
[00:57:30] <richlowe> looks like a recent FMA integration broke things?
[00:58:03] <toasterson> yep all disk got deduplicated to c21t0d0
[00:58:13] <richlowe> cmd/fm/fmtopo says topo_node_occupied is not a thing.
[00:58:24] <richlowe> probably 10898
[00:58:52] <richlowe> LeftWing: that jenkins of yours blow up too?
[00:59:15] <LeftWing> Mine isn't operating right now
[00:59:26] <LeftWing> I can kick it off now
[00:59:28] <richlowe> I'd appreciate some confirmation before I back it out.
[00:59:32] <richlowe> or ask someone to
[00:59:33] <richlowe> or whatnot
[01:00:21] <richlowe> just did it locally so I can get this RTI done, for right now, so I can push a backout with that I suppose

[01:04:15] <richlowe> implicit declaration
[01:04:45] <LeftWing> huh
[01:05:05] <richlowe> is it looking at the wrong headers someone along the line?
[01:05:14] <LeftWing> Yeah I'm trying to figure that out
[01:05:16] <richlowe> all I did was merge it and build for my RTI :(
[01:05:36] <richlowe> and I've now reverted it and am building for the same reason, so I can't really see it to debug.
[01:05:41] <LeftWing> Right
[01:05:49] <richlowe> does it not fail for you?
[01:06:00] <LeftWing> Well the build is going to take a while
[01:06:24] <richlowe> aye
[01:06:37] <richlowe> I emailed advocates, maybe rob or gordon will be on it sooner.
[01:07:05] <LeftWing> https://github.com/illumos/illumos-gate/blob/8abca89f418632e2ebd3bcbc8b0d814c394ebef1/usr/src/lib/fm/topo/libtopo/common/libtopo.h#L145
[01:07:08] <LeftWing> It's definitely in there
[01:08:36] <richlowe> yeah, I'm wondering if there's an -I missing along the way.
[01:09:02] <LeftWing> I think we install it in proto?
[01:09:35] <LeftWing> It becomes /usr/include/fm/libtopo.h
[01:10:06] <richlowe> all I have is my nightly.log, man. :\
[01:10:24] <LeftWing> So, I do get that error when trying to make that directory directly
[01:12:03] <richlowe> after a setup that should have installed the header?
[01:12:10] <richlowe> and/or a build that would.
[01:12:22] <LeftWing> No, doing the install_h fixes it
[01:12:42] <richlowe> then how the hell did my clobber build fall to it?
[01:12:55] <LeftWing> This I do not know

[01:22:52] <richlowe> good timing
[01:23:10] <richlowe> rejohnst: I did a full clobber build and everything, I can't see how it could be your fault, but I also can't see what in the world actually happened.
[01:23:17] <richlowe> rejohnst: sorry for pointing the finger your way.
[01:23:21] <rejohnst> no worries
[01:24:57] <jlevon> does that mean I can push

[01:26:43] <richlowe> ../common/fmtopo.c:179:9: error: implicit declaration of function 'topo_node_occupied'; did you mean 'topo_node_facility'? [-Werror=implicit-function-declaration]
[01:26:48] <richlowe> but that's because I somehow have the old libtopo.h
[01:26:54] <richlowe> and how _that_ happened is a mystery.
[01:27:13] <jlevon> blame the clock
[01:28:10] <richlowe> jlevon: I would, but nightly.log shows the install of it happening.
[01:28:14] <richlowe> and as I said, clobber build.

[01:39:36] <richlowe> rejohnst: but it's looking like I'm cursed and you're fine
[01:40:46] <rejohnst> ok - you might try saving your changes to a patch file and then doing a "git reset --hard HEAD~1" and then git pull the changes over again.
[01:41:42] <richlowe> Yeah, I've made certain I definitely have the right header in the source tree now, but it's too late to check if I didn't before. And the thought I might not have is perhaps more worrying. :\
[03:00:28] <richlowe> gotta say, I was kinda hoping for some confirmation I wasn't crazy :)

[22:24:34] <neirac> Smithx10 yes, that's possible. I like SmartOS a lot, Triton is great.
[22:29:29] <Smithx10> toasterson: I was thinking that on startup we could reach out to the OS and see.... I was thinking we could just have a switch that checks uname -a or whatever the equivelant is in golangs os package
[22:30:07] <Smithx10> neirac: I think we'd have to expand the zone package to handle images within lifecycle or something
[22:30:59] <toasterson> SMithx10 no. it will only report for which platform it got compiled on.
