[08:59:37] <BeOSBoy> how does one go about getting some info ? sorry mates, 1st time irc user..
[08:59:52] <humdinger> oi BeOSBoy! info on what?
[09:03:39] <BeOSBoy> hi ya pal, am running BeOS PE on hp P4 at 2 dot 4ghz.... fun ay, goes on transmeta crusoe too... been a haiku follower since you guys started, got alpha 1 to 4, BUT, the haikuware site times out when downloading software, download limit reached, great....NOT, so I thought I'd register as a member, site goes to an infinite loop, tells me I failed the spam test. I built and configured my linux box, I am a private eye, more to follow....
[09:04:02] <BeOSBoy> How do I download now? and how can I get registered?
[09:05:00] <BeOSBoy> I trace and track and report spammers as part of my job, so spammer I am not...
[09:05:37] *** biso has quit IRC
[09:06:16] <humdinger> never heard of any limit at haikuware... I don't use it very much anymore, but if I do, I can download stuff without logging in...
[09:06:24] <humdinger> have you tried Bebits instead?
[09:06:36] *** Aliensoldier has quit IRC
[09:06:43] <humdinger> it has most of what haikuware has, I guess
[09:07:16] <humdinger> otherwise, I'd recommend installing a newer nightly Haiku image and see if you find what you look for with HaikuDepot
[09:07:23] *** biso has joined #haiku
[09:07:34] <humdinger> or compile yourself with haikuporter
[09:07:49] <BeOSBoy> yep, but not all the links go, and that's too time consuming.... I saw on one of the forums, that this same problem existed some 7 mnths ago, but there was no answer included to the query on it...
[09:08:07] <BeOSBoy> I have max, 3.1 4 PE and XbeoX
[09:08:25] <humdinger> never heard of XbeoX...
[09:08:32] <humdinger> haiku doesn't run for you?
[09:10:11] <BeOSBoy> yeah matey, it runs, but how to get apps for it is the problem... Xbeox is a cd version, freeBeOS and is 139 mb, is an iso, which I renamed to image.be, and boot using the WIN9X loadbeos.com and zbeos files using freedos...goes sweet as a nut
[09:10:41] <humdinger> nice :)
[09:10:57] <BeOSBoy> I boot all my versions this way as happens...
[09:10:57] <humdinger> maybe try another browser for your problem with haikuware
[09:12:34] <BeOSBoy> ok...cool suggestion, am on a barry kauler written version of puppylinux, and browser is out of date... nice pal, ta... I have assembly language and pc architecture by barry kauler, that's my realmode asm bible... is there a chat room, or is this it?
[09:13:39] <humdinger> this is the main haiku channel.
[09:15:06] <humdinger> type "/list" to get all the channels of this network. watch out, might be a long list...
[09:16:03] *** happy-dude has quit IRC
[09:18:10] <BeOSBoy> thank you very much for your time matey, cool, was scratching my head on it.... very nice....... hope to see you on site...soonish, rather than later... you have a good day / night. [is night here see.] ta
[09:18:29] <humdinger> cya BeOSBoy!
[09:19:23] <BeOSBoy> I'm an old man actually... 50-ish...... heheheh

[09:22:09] <humdinger> /list, old man :)
[09:22:53] <BeOSBoy> yeh, ta... was just wondering if this is the place to do that query or not.... don't wanna clog the channel so to speak
[09:23:12] <humdinger> it'll output only locally for you.
[09:23:47] <humdinger> even if you're not in Haiku using Vision, the userguide might have some hints on using IRC: http://www.haiku-os.org/docs/userguide/en/applications/vision.html
[09:23:56] <BeOSBoy> ok.... can I redirect it to a local drive text file ie > file.txt?
[09:24:22] <humdinger> I don't think so...
[09:25:45] <BeOSBoy> ok matey, ta for that link by the way... I have a cracking load of Be manuals.... sadly asm realmode, or basic is my thing, used to do a bit of 4th and cobol once too.... what a dinosaur...
[09:27:41] <humdinger> never too late to start with c++, if you have a coder's mindset, I guess. :)
[09:28:07] <humdinger> There are some starting c++ tutorials specific to Haiku, if you're interested.
[09:29:12] * humdinger is idle: phone
[09:30:08] <BeOSBoy> I have c / c++ for dummies, OOP is confusing to my minds eye... and like pascal, I just don't appear to get it at all right... yeah, am interested tho, just got yesterday, nuie, and some other gui sdk's off site... cos am thinkin' C++ mite be the only way forward

[12:35:15] <BeOSBoy> thanx that's excellent, today started off bad but has turned out quite well... chatting with you guys is fun... so in a BFS partition, I presume the system recognises a file as empty by the data contained within said file, ie say eof 255. is that how the system runs?
[12:38:28] <BeOSBoy> ie an if data NOT 255 then copy data > say .zip, next if data = 255 then stretch file endbyte to new total..... something along the idea of that for a stretcher... I wish I knew c++, could test without asking what could be a stupid question..

[17:50:06] <Anarchos> humdinger i discover the "search" option to pkgman :)
[17:50:12] <Dane> Hey does anybody know how to turn this stuff into actual images?
[17:50:13] <Dane> http://cgit.haiku-os.org/haiku/tree/data/artwork
[17:50:33] <Dane> (or are the images available somewhere already as...images?)
[17:50:42] <humdinger> Hi Dane! open in Icon-o-matic and export as PNG.
[17:50:54] <Dane> oh really!
[17:50:55] <Dane> Trying it
[17:51:07] <jstressman> those are wonderbrush.
[17:51:11] <jstressman> (the ones that aren't png.)
[17:51:20] <jstressman> so use WonderBrush. not Icon-O-Matic.
[17:51:24] <humdinger> oh, right.
[17:51:27] <Dane__> ah
[17:51:41] <Dane__> No WonderBrush license here, guess I'm outta luck
[17:51:47] <jstressman> it's free.
[17:51:52] <jstressman> install from HaikuDepot.
[17:51:53] <Dane__> I thought you had to register it
[17:51:59] <jstressman> not anymore apparently.
[17:51:59] <Dane__> (in order to save anything)
[17:52:04] <humdinger> nope, stippi donated it.
[17:52:06] <Dane__> Didn't realyize that.
[17:52:11] <Dane__> That was very generous of him.
[17:52:17] <jstressman> indeed. :)
[17:52:56] <humdinger> Dane__: BTW, if you need bigger icons (I-O-M only saves up to 64px), you can expot as SVG and import that in WonderBrush.
[17:53:15] <Dane__> humdinger Actually rather than icons, I need full sized logos
[17:53:25] <Dane__> So maybe Im' on the wrong page.
[17:53:41] *** Sir_Designer has quit IRC
[17:53:53] <humdinger> Dane__: well... maybe you need an icon in a higher resolution for a logo. :)
[17:55:28] <Dane__> The file saved from that site isn't anything Wonderbrush seems to know what to do with.
[17:55:42] <Dane__> Oh, just found theactual graphic
[17:55:50] <Dane__> It's a link cllaed, "plain"
[17:56:04] <Dane__> Learn to type, Dane! :-P

[18:44:25] <waddlesplash> Anarchos: no, you need to install a shell. try "pkgman install bash"
[18:45:11] <Anarchos> waddlesplash i just wanted to install my home-compiled version of haiku above an already working install
[18:45:27] <waddlesplash> Anarchos: yes, it looks like you updated to a version that does not provide bash
[18:45:38] <waddlesplash> this change was made about a month ago
[18:45:45] <Anarchos> that is : installing all the hpkg from $TOP/generated/objects/haiku/x86_gcc2/packaging/repositories/Haiku/packages
[18:46:01] <waddlesplash> yes
[18:46:08] <Anarchos> oh ok
[18:46:09] <waddlesplash> you need to install bash, as Haiku does not include it
[18:46:21] <waddlesplash> it was removed from the source tree in December
[18:46:33] <Anarchos> waddlesplash so i install my haiku package, and after that the bash one, and i can reboot . In this order ?
