[12:36:30] <scarcry> jperkin: I made the switch from oi_151a7 to SmartOS 20130222T000747Z and used your multiarch-12.4.1 image_uuid ee1fb198-5fe1-11e2-9cce-e319fd47df7b to setup an irssi zone. I noticed from /load within irssi that irssi doesn't seem to be compiled with perl support.
[12:37:01] <jperkin> ok, I'll add that as the default option
[12:37:06] <scarcry> is that intentional? irssi w/o perl support for me is being gimped
[12:37:12] <scarcry> wow, fast reply cool
[12:37:13] <jperkin> pkgsrc generally takes a conservative approach
[12:37:28] <scarcry> how do I go about it
[12:37:34] <jperkin> but it's trivial for us to configure PKG_OPTIONS to enable it for our packages
[12:37:52] <scarcry> can I do something myself or do I wait on joyent?
[12:37:53] <scarcry> oic
[12:38:27] <jperkin> if you wanted to do it yourself you could follow my tutorials, they mention 'show-options' so you can see what build options are available, then you'd set 'PKG_OPTIONS.irssi= perl' in mk.conf prior to building
[12:38:56] <jperkin> or set PKG_DEFAULT_OPTIONS+=perl which will enable perl support in all packages which support that option (we try to keep option variables similar across pkgsrc so it's easy to enable/disable common features)
[12:39:04] <scarcry> ah, that sounds like me having to setup a pkgsrc build zone first ?
[12:39:21] <jperkin> right, http://www.perkin.org.uk/posts/pkgsrc-on-smartos-zone-creation-and-basic-builds.html
[12:39:50] <jperkin> not a specific build zone, you can use the one you already installed, just follow the second half of that guide
[12:40:10] <scarcry> I don't have any experience with that yet so it'll take me some time no doubt..is it too much to ask when the joyent irssi pkgsrc will be updated within multiarch ?
[12:40:19] <scarcry> hmm, interesting
[12:40:24] <jperkin> for multiarch you'd need the joyent/release/2012Q4_multiarch branch
[12:40:38] <jperkin> I can do it on monday
[12:41:06] <scarcry> sweet, so I can read up on pkgsrc over the weekend a bit..irssi works but feels a bit empty w/o perl
[12:41:38] <jperkin> yeh, I should have done that by default, I use irssi+perl but not from pkgsrc
[12:42:09] <scarcry> oic..guess I was spoiled using irssi on oi that came with all the bells and whistles installed ;)
[12:42:47] <scarcry> but no/hardly any progress on oi so I finally made the switch to smartos yesterday
[12:43:15] <jperkin> let me know if there are other bits missing, we've covered a lot of them but there will still be some we missed.
[12:43:53] <scarcry> will do, I'm always lurking around on here and do follow most conversations
[12:44:54] <scarcry> does joyent plan on bringing the multiarch image under imgadm control at some point (ie that it will show up with imgadm avail) ?
[12:45:06] <scarcry> I used your blog post to get the image for now obviously
[12:45:21] <jperkin> yep, once it's been reasonably well tested

[22:33:25] *** Cpt-Oblivious has quit IRC
[22:35:29] <_lb_> Triluch: what are you trying to do?
[22:36:32] <rmustacc> You can just give the GZ a private address and have it route through a nat zone.
[22:36:43] <Triluch> I have machine with 1 IP address, I want to setup zone(s) with access to internet
[22:37:56] <Triluch> machine is remote server and I have no KVM access for it, so I can't really give private addr to GZ
[22:38:02] <_lb_> And you don't want the GZ to have access to the internet? Or do you want to land into a zone with the public IP?
[22:40:07] <Triluch> Only thing I need is zones and GZ with internet access
[22:40:32] <Triluch> without changing current GZ public IP
[22:41:06] <_lb_> What kind of services are you runnning in the zones?
[22:41:10] <_lb_> http?
[22:41:42] <Triluch> various http also. But don't need zones to be reachable from the internet atm
[22:42:05] <_lb_> ok, I don't see the problem then...
[22:43:17] <_lb_> with a bit of NAT and perhaps a load balancer you will be good to go
[22:43:23] <_lb_> I personally love haproxy ;)
[22:44:16] <Triluch> Its just temporary setup - I will have public IP's for zones, but need to prepare them 1st, and then migrate services and IP's
[22:44:39] <Triluch> doesn't need to be stable even :)
[22:44:47] *** denizr has joined #smartos
[22:46:32] <Triluch> problem is I don't have experience with setting up network on smartos/solaris. I've managed to create local network where GZ and other zones can see each others, but I've failed to setup NAT
[22:55:17] <rmustacc> The simple way to do this is to create a vnic in the GZ, give it an address like say 10.1.2.1/24
[22:55:31] <rmustacc> Give each zone an address in 10.1.2.0/24 and make 10.1.2.1 the gateway.
[22:55:34] <rmustacc> Then you can enable ipnat.
[22:56:57] <rmustacc> The ipnat is as simple as something like map <output dev> 10.1.2.0/24 -> 0/32
[22:57:00] <rmustacc> IIRC
[22:57:15] <jperkin> Licenser: could be, we have dtrace as a globally enabled option but the package itself might need an additional configure flag
[22:57:19] <Triluch> sounds easy, lets see in practice
[22:57:22] <Triluch> thanks
[22:57:37] <Licenser> *nods* I'll have a peak :)
[22:58:08] <rmustacc> That's the ipnat.conf file. You'll need to enable ipnat to point to it.
[22:58:48] <rmustacc> Licenser: Do you have a pointer to the nginx dtrace documentation?'
[23:01:29] <Licenser> rmustacc I just stumbled over it myself http://nginx.org/en/docs/nginx_dtrace_pid_provider.html <- is what I got
[23:02:36] <rmustacc> There wouldn't be a dtrace option for nginx if all there exists is a pid provider.

[23:55:21] <wesolows> arai1: NFS can be used as a global shared data store, sure. You can't run a server in a zone, though.

[23:58:17] <scarcry> jperkin: would you be willing to build mutt with smtp support?
[23:59:46] <arai1> wesolows: I was hoping to find an option similar to linux's --bind option for mounts, but it appears zoneadm doesn't even like subdirectory mounts in zones
