[17:38:11] <jose_freitas> mojavelinux: I have the seam-javaee-booking almost completely working, there's just three things I have to workaround, one is that problem with messages we spoke a coupe days ago, another one is with injection of inputField in a validator (which is coming null), and the last one is with UIInputContainer, it's not accessing components outside of the container. But I'm pretty close now.

[17:41:20] <mojavelinux> excellent! it sounds like there may be some bugs in Seam Faces then
[17:41:28] <mojavelinux> what would be fantastic is if we could get some tests for these
[17:41:44] <mojavelinux> testing JSF is tough since it means leaving unit testing and going to integration testing...but hopefully Arquillian makes that smooth

[17:59:28] <jose_freitas> just tell me what would you like to see running on the example
[18:00:30] <mojavelinux> hey, we need catch in there, definitely!
[18:00:48] <lightguard_jp> Yes, catch needs to be there
[18:00:51] <mojavelinux> hehehe
[18:01:05] <lightguard_jp> If the jar isn't there it needs to be, then we need to get some handler in there

[23:12:14] <mojavelinux> I know stuart and jason are here here
[23:12:16] <jganoff> here
[23:12:22] <lightguard_jp> :)
[23:12:27] <jharting> here
[23:12:31] <jganoff> have to leave at 5:20 but I didn't want to miss it
[23:12:35] <jganoff> (all of it)
[23:12:38] <mojavelinux> hehee
[23:12:48] <mojavelinux> we'll start with you then :)
[23:13:10] <mojavelinux> keep saying here in async while I start
[23:13:59] <mojavelinux> so first, as you know stuart is now working on AS for JBoss (yeah!), but will continue to lead solder from a technical standpoint, time permitting
[23:14:08] <jganoff> wooo!
[23:14:16] <mojavelinux> shane and I will handle all the crufty stuff like releases
[23:14:45] <mojavelinux> we have two newcomers this week, jose_freitas who has been working to get the booking example functioning again
[23:15:36] <mojavelinux> and Ove Ranheim who has sent in some wicket patches and will be pushing us to get features done so he can use them in his app ;)
[23:16:04] <mojavelinux> and Brian Leathem has been working on a guide to get started development/contributing...because what we have now is sort of a mess
[23:16:18] <mojavelinux> so all hail the newcomers ;)
[23:16:25] <jganoff> hail!
[23:16:32] <jganoff> Welcome to the team! :)
[23:16:49] <mojavelinux> as I mentioned to them, it's a great time to get started now because there is lots of activity
[23:17:01] <mojavelinux> pete royle told me yesterday he is coming back to work on Seam scheduling
[23:17:08] <mojavelinux> so that's going to get a module page and all
[23:17:20] <mojavelinux> Jordan that will compliment jms nicely
[23:17:29] <mojavelinux> because it will likely handle the async events that don't use jms
[23:17:37] <mojavelinux> but be parallel
[23:17:39] <jganoff> oh that's great news :)
[23:17:40] <mojavelinux> I'm guessing
[23:18:16] <lightguard_jp> :)
[23:18:30] <mojavelinux> I'm going to try to push out a release of JMS tomorrow just to get it up to speed with solder now that the build is working again
[23:18:55] <mojavelinux> but after that, I'd like to move that module back into the fast lane and get some development on it
[23:19:12] <mojavelinux> I know lightguard_jp and john ament have expressed interest in helping out
[23:19:15] <jganoff> Thanks for releasing that
[23:19:23] <jganoff> Great, we could use all the help we can get.
[23:19:42] <lightguard_jp> I need to get a beta out for catch before I can really do much on jms
[23:19:43] <jganoff> Hopefully everything is described well enough in the open JIRAs that anyone can pick one up and run with it.
[23:19:45] <mojavelinux> I happen to think jms is another one of those really critical modules from a usability standpoint, because without it, jms is very scary to newcomers
[23:20:02] <mojavelinux> exactly, so that brings up a good point actually
[23:20:33] <mojavelinux> if you are short on time, or you aren't exactly sure which code to write, explaining what you want to write on the design page, or in JIRA modules...enables other people to actually help you out
[23:20:51] <mojavelinux> it's painful to sit down and write out a design, but it pays you back a ton
[23:21:02] <mojavelinux> plus, it helps shane and I figure out where we are on a module even before the code is there
[23:21:58] <mojavelinux> and we all love help :)
[23:22:44] <mojavelinux> speaking of help, I'd like to mention an initiative I'm starting to help everyone get more recognition and exposure for the code you are writing
[23:22:44] <jganoff> Any specific questions for me before I have to take off?
[23:23:22] <mojavelinux> ah, I would say if there is any CDI spec change you needed to get JMS working, make sure Pete knows about it because he's being doing a call for CDI spec changes
[23:23:44] <mojavelinux> and I know you had possibility hit a wall somewhere
[23:24:02] <jganoff> I saw that
[23:24:05] <mojavelinux> great
[23:24:10] <lightguard_jp> mojavelinux: Does pete know about the things we've been talking about with enhancing observers and event objects?
[23:24:15] <jganoff> Yea, I had - i need to review and make sure that what I proposed a while back actually made it in
[23:24:22] <lightguard_jp> Specifically about ordering and access to meta data
[23:24:25] <mojavelinux> we hit a similar thing in catch
[23:25:23] <jganoff> Ok great, catch you guys later! ;)
[23:25:29] <jganoff> You know where to find me.
[23:25:30] <lightguard_jp> jganoff: Later
[23:25:33] *** jganoff has quit IRC
[23:25:45] <mojavelinux> okay, seam snippets initiative
[23:25:59] <mojavelinux> so basically, I would like to start something like http://liberiangeek.net
[23:26:14] <mojavelinux> in a world where everyone has about a 2 second attention span
[23:26:28] <mojavelinux> we need 2 second "feature previews" for Seam 3
[23:26:38] <mojavelinux> we have lots of code and features already and basically, no one knows it
[23:26:46] <mojavelinux> you can say "review my module" and no one has time
[23:26:48] <mojavelinux> but
[23:27:00] <mojavelinux> you can say, look at how you do this one thing and voila, you get feedback
[23:27:22] <mojavelinux> plus, you get to reuse all that effort you put into the reference guide
[23:27:37] <mojavelinux> which I think people use more as an indepth resource than a first time intro
[23:27:56] <mojavelinux> so what I'm asking is, think of what tips you want to highlight
[23:28:03] <mojavelinux> for instance, we could do a whole tip on @Veto
[23:28:13] <mojavelinux> or a while tip on validating a REST parameter
[23:28:22] <mojavelinux> or catching an exception in a servlet
[23:28:32] <mojavelinux> simple, simple stuff...though some could be more involved
[23:28:42] <mojavelinux> I'm going to be setting up the place where we centrally host them
[23:29:10] <mojavelinux> and I'd like to do at least one a week, and then we can encourage seam users to contribute tips as well...and the news just rolls out
[23:29:20] <mojavelinux> then, we don't have to write novel-size blog entries when we release a module
[23:29:29] <mojavelinux> because that wouldn't be the only time you ever get to say anything about your module :)
[23:29:36] <lightguard_jp> mojavelinux: Will those be broadcast on twitter too?
[23:29:43] <lightguard_jp> from @jbossseam ?
[23:29:47] <mojavelinux> we will broadcast the heck out of them :) yep
[23:29:54] <lightguard_jp> Sweet
[23:30:04] <mojavelinux> and, people will see your name in headlights, so it's good exposure for you as well
[23:30:34] <mojavelinux> two more announcement-y things
[23:30:55] <mojavelinux> first, thanks to lightguard_jp glassfish has been (hopefully) fixed so that Seam will work on it
[23:31:11] <mojavelinux> that solves the immediate problem, and allows us to release solder beta 2
[23:31:22] <mojavelinux> however, what we realized in a meeting this morning is that this is really a CDI spec problem
[23:31:24] <mojavelinux> and the EG should be involved
[23:31:31] <lightguard_jp> mojavelinux: Did we verify that with the test?
[23:31:44] <mojavelinux> and if there is a misunderstanding about the spec, we shouldn't have to be taking on this burden of trying to get everyone to fix it
[23:31:45] <stuartdouglas> what is the problem with GF?
[23:32:00] <mojavelinux> in short, extensions in a non-bean archive were not loaded
[23:32:10] <mojavelinux> or I should say, glassfish would not look for extensions unless they were in a bean archive
[23:32:13] <mojavelinux> breaking solder
[23:32:53] <mojavelinux> https://issues.jboss.org/browse/SOLDER-47
[23:32:54] <stuartdouglas> ah, I did not realsize that still had not been fixed
[23:32:55] <jbossbot> jira [SOLDER-47] Cannot use Solder in Glassfish 3.1 [Open, Blocker, Shane Bryzak] https://issues.jboss.org/browse/SOLDER-47
[23:33:08] <mojavelinux> yeah, thanks to jason he really kept pushing on this one
[23:33:13] <mojavelinux> by giving them an actual example
[23:33:24] <mojavelinux> we still need to submit the arquillian test...I Have it, just haven't committed it yet
[23:33:54] <mojavelinux> the commit to glassfish says it all
[23:34:02] <mojavelinux> but guess what
[23:34:05] <mojavelinux> same problem in resin
[23:34:24] <mojavelinux> so clearly there is a vagueness in the spec or something
[23:34:31] <stuartdouglas> maybe we should just add beans.xml?
[23:34:35] <mojavelinux> gotta see what scott fergenson says
[23:34:42] <stuartdouglas> there is not that many classes in solder
[23:34:59] <stuartdouglas> and given how much faster weld starts now I don't think it will be to big a problem
[23:35:11] <mojavelinux> that's a great point, this was really a premature optimization
[23:35:39] <mojavelinux> reverting might be the easiest path, though still this needs to be addressed at the spec level just so that the story is straight on the matter
[23:35:58] <mojavelinux> actually, I was also thinking
[23:36:09] <mojavelinux> i'd like to release a version of solder w/o the services file
[23:36:20] <stuartdouglas> if the number of classes present in solder causes problems, then we are in trouble :-)
[23:36:27] <mojavelinux> hahaha
[23:36:33] <mojavelinux> we just might have to do some vetoing
[23:36:37] <mojavelinux> but that's easy enough to test
[23:37:10] <mojavelinux> because I can see solder being useful as a utility library without the extensions, and the extensions in there get loaded even if you don't want them
[23:37:16] <mojavelinux> you also might want to hand pick which extensions to load
[23:37:25] <mojavelinux> and I think having something like seam-solder-noauto
[23:37:32] <mojavelinux> makes sense, just a packaging thing
[23:38:03] <mojavelinux> last announcement thing, then opening the floor for some discussions
[23:38:15] <mojavelinux> timeline for Seam stack release final is JBoss World
[23:38:21] <mojavelinux> so beta ~ March
[23:38:32] *** jdlee has quit IRC
[23:38:35] <mojavelinux> just so everyone is aware of the rough schedule...and that release at JBoss World is a must hit
[23:38:57] <mojavelinux> because we've shown up empty handed twice, can't make it three
[23:42:05] <mojavelinux> does anyone have a topic they would like to bring forward?
[23:42:34] <lightguard_jp> Nothing here
[23:42:36] <clerum> I need someone to review the mail api before I got further into docs
[23:43:21] <sbryzak> mojavelinux: beta is Jan 21, CR1 is March ;)
[23:43:34] <mojavelinux> oops, thanks shane
[23:44:15] <mojavelinux> that's right, review of mail, I do have you on my list...although I intend on doing some review myself, shane would you like to review mail a bit
[23:44:20] <mojavelinux> so you are familiar with what it's about?
[23:44:30] <lightguard_jp> Shoot, I need to get a beta out then
[23:44:34] <lightguard_jp> Next week
[23:44:38] <mojavelinux> btw, I've added mail to the included modules in the stack release
[23:44:58] <mojavelinux> because I don't know about anyone else, but sending a real mail message w/ the Java API is pretty much a pipedream
[23:45:05] <mojavelinux> and how we deliever without that I just don't know
[23:45:36] <sbryzak> sorry, am still half asleep.. yep i can review the mail module
[23:45:37] <mojavelinux> not to mention cody is on top of that module
[23:45:57] *** smigielski has quit IRC
[23:46:12] <mojavelinux> we are looking for whether the API is aligning well with our grand vision (assuming there is such a thing) and that it is leveraging CDI sufficiently
[23:46:17] <clerum> first module I've written, so don't hold back. I won't be offended
[23:46:25] <mojavelinux> I"d ask stuart as well, but I know you are probably massively overloaded as it is
[23:46:37] <mojavelinux> he asked for it!
[23:46:38] <mojavelinux> hahaha
[23:47:15] <stuartdouglas> I will try and have a look this weekend

[23:48:07] <mojavelinux> cody do you have any tests yet? (I'm pretty sure you do)
[23:48:17] <mojavelinux> if so, we need to make sure they run in the CI build
[23:48:23] <clerum> yes
[23:48:27] <mojavelinux> did you see the jira for that (or did I not create it yet)
[23:48:43] <clerum> didn't see one but may have missed it
[23:48:56] <mojavelinux> that was in a dream or something
[23:49:09] <mojavelinux> okay, I'll make one, cause I have a template I copy paste from :)
[23:50:22] <mojavelinux> btw, I updated all the Seam JIRA projects to use the workflow that I created to support pull requests
[23:50:29] <mojavelinux> and also, a logical set of task types
[23:50:38] <mojavelinux> since before it was like crap I didn't even know what the heck half the stuff was
[23:50:52] <mojavelinux> now it's like bug, enhancement, feature request, task and library upgrade
[23:50:56] <mojavelinux> i.e., english
[23:51:07] <clerum> any update on jira -> git integration?
[23:51:44] <mojavelinux> well, for now you can enter in the pull request URL
[23:51:58] <mojavelinux> that's the extent of what I put in place, though jboss is actively looking at a more integrated experience
[23:52:00] <clerum> via fisheye
[23:52:11] <mojavelinux> yes, there is fisheye integration, it just needs to be wired up
[23:53:49] <mojavelinux> SEAMMAIL-9
[23:53:50] <jbossbot> jira [SEAMMAIL-9] Setup Hudson job for Seam Mail [Open, Major, Martin Gencur] https://issues.jboss.org/browse/SEAMMAIL-9
[23:54:52] <mojavelinux> I haven't quite worked out when the best time for office hours will be, but I'm thinking that one time that makes a lot of sense is right after the community meeting
[23:55:37] <mojavelinux> the idea is that it's a time when contributors can expect to bring questions about working on a module and not just get crickets as a response
[23:56:07] <mojavelinux> so let's start there, maybe 1 - 2 hours to start, we'll see how it goes
[23:57:19] <clerum> sounds good
[23:59:33] <mojavelinux> on that note, we'll call that a wrap
