[00:32:50] <possie> hi
[00:34:43] <possie> there is a lot of mail spam in mailq going to a certain IP adres all addressed to addresses @yahoo.com.tw is there a way to remove these addresses?
[00:35:28] <adaptr> postsuper -d ALL
[00:35:47] <adaptr> but you'd better shut down postfix altogether
[00:35:52] <adaptr> you're acting as a SPAM RELAY
[00:36:00] <adaptr> ..which can get you thrown off the net
[00:36:05] <possie> yeah've stopped postfix already
[00:36:14] <rob0> check where these came from
[00:36:21] <adaptr> then just rm -rf the queue dirs
[00:36:26] <possie> however i don't want to delete all messages, there is valid e-mail in there
[00:36:37] <rob0> well, would be prudent to scan the mailq list
[00:36:40] <adaptr> at this point, that is unfortunately the least of your problems
[00:37:18] <rob0> holy crap
[00:37:35] <adaptr> better run something automated on that
[00:37:42] <rob0> pastebin some of the logs of the @yahoo.com.tw spams
[00:37:59] <rob0> I would also turn off your httpd
[00:38:19] <rob0> you're probably compromised already, perhaps even root level.
[00:38:20] <adaptr> if you know the domain that's bad, grep -v it and output filenames only, then xargs rm
[00:38:39] <adaptr> that depends on whether it was due to his postfix just being an open relay altogether :)
[00:38:50] <adaptr> no need for hackerage in that case
[00:38:51] <rob0> that's what we need to find out
[00:38:54] <adaptr> true, agreed
[00:39:11] <adaptr> download chkrootkit on a trusted computer and run it
[00:39:24] <possie> chkroot kit doesn't find anyroot kit though
[00:39:33] <possie> ofcourse that doesn't mean anything
[00:39:36] <adaptr> indeed
[00:40:47] <rob0> waste of time, probably

[18:15:46] <m_g> i currently receive my emails for some domains on server A (uses postfix). now i want to switch to server B, but before i do this, i want to "mirror" the emails from A to B to see if everything is working correctly and to have copies of the emails for some weeks before i switch. what would be the easiest way to do this? i read upon relays but i'm not sure if it is what i'm looking for
[18:16:13] <tolecnal> is there any special caution I should take in terms of configuration if my server receives mails from backup MX servers?
[18:17:07] <sinthetek> heya, i got dspam integrated in my postfix and it seems to be working fine except for when the spam signature db is down and dspam reflects that, spamcheck is abandoned and the email is delievered rather than queue'd for spamcheck-retry
[18:18:03] <sinthetek> i'm wondering if there is an option tomake it retry x amount of times before giving up and proceeding to lda
[18:18:47] <rob0> !tell delire relayhost
[18:19:31] <sinthetek> hmm... maybe i should be trying to make dspam retry more/longer before returning...
[18:20:50] <delire> rob0: thanks, but when i give my mailserver as a relay host, i get a " Relay access denied" back from /my/ mailserver.
[18:21:36] <delire> rob0: it works fine without a relayhost for most email except google it seems.
[18:21:45] <sinthetek> delire: you need to set the source host a $mynetworks network
[18:22:11] <delire> sinthetek: right, so just give it the loopback addr?
[18:22:20] <sinthetek> rob0: unfortunately, that also includes everyone using google free domain hosting i believe :\
[18:22:28] <delire> (this is just a laptop that DHCP's to the network)
[18:22:31] <sinthetek> domain mail hosting*
[18:22:48] <sinthetek> uhh, sorry i just came in..
[18:23:28] <delire> at the moment i only have "myorigin = $mydomain \n mynetworks_style = host \n relay_domains =" in my config.
[18:24:15] <sinthetek> your.relay needs to have the ip of your.relayer in it's $mynetworks
[18:24:26] <sinthetek> and your.relayer needs your.relay as it's $relayhost
[18:24:33] <sinthetek> then postmap reload on both systems and you're good

[22:44:51] <tolecnal> my primary server is set with MX 10, then the backup with MX 200. if my server goes down, then the other will kick in and relay them back to mine back (as it should, you know the drill). but do I need to take any steps to ensure that my server accepts them, or does postfix figure this out itself?
[22:45:17] <hparker> What the1d said.... it needs everything the primary has...
[22:45:29] * hparker has never seen the need for a secondary mx
[22:45:57] <tolecnal> right, which poses as somewhat of a problem. since I don't have configuration rights on that server :/
[22:46:12] <the1d> I have a backup MX listed in my zones that doesn't exist - that removes some of the possible spam
[22:46:20] <hparker> then don't use it... you will generate backscatter
[22:46:47] <hparker> Why do you think you need one?
[22:48:08] <tolecnal> well, I've always been told that it's good to have a backup MX just in case, and _just_ in case your main server goes down so that mails sent during that period doesn't get lost. Admittedly, most MTA's will try to resend the mail for up to 72 hours, in which time the main server should be back up anyway. Just a case of paranoia I guess
[22:48:35] <hparker> Most sane MTAs retry for 5 days
