[01:38:12] <s0n1c-> Is there any other window manager besides Mate for OpenIndiana?
[01:42:02] <AmyMalik> MATE is not a window manager
[01:42:17] <AmyMalik> also i believe you can install any DE you want as long as it compiles on illumos
[01:43:32] <s0n1c-> Nice! And is there any alternative to Mate for OpenIndiana?
[01:44:23] <s0n1c-> I searched the repository and did not find ...
[01:45:33] <AmyMalik> But yeah, compile what you want and install it to where you want to install it
[01:46:06] <AmyMalik> While I personally use xfce, I do that on freebsd. I do not use a desktop environment on any of my illumos machines (none of which are OI by the way)
[01:46:31] <AmyMalik> So ignore me
[01:47:46] <s0n1c-> On Linux I like fluxbox. I would like to install CDE on OI, but I couldn't, so I'm looking for alternatives similar to fluxbox and blackbox ...

[12:53:03] <javashin> hello
[12:53:32] <javashin> i did the installation and upgraded
[12:54:02] <javashin> in qemu libvirt
[12:56:04] <javashin> and i mounted the image in nbd with qemu-nbd imported rpool did the copy to a new dataset in my Zfsonlinux Zroot pool i have put loader64e.efi in ESP/EFI set bootfs to the dataset zroot/ROOT/OpenIndiana rebooted and i cant boot
[12:56:24] <javashin> what else do i need to do to make this work ?
[13:00:55] <tsoome> what you mean by cant boot?
[13:01:52] <javashin> yeah it dont boot from the dataset in the zfsonlinux pool
[13:02:02] <tsoome> does loader get started?
[13:02:07] <javashin> yes
[13:02:17] <javashin> when sunos gets in
[13:02:25] <tsoome> can it see the root file system?
[13:02:35] <javashin> looks like no
[13:02:39] <javashin> cant boot
[13:02:48] <javashin> i mean dont boot
[13:03:25] <tsoome> start the vm, when you see bootloader menu, press esc to get out of the menu
[13:03:45] <tsoome> (seeing the menu actually does imply it can read the root fs)
[13:04:01] <tsoome> on ok promt use ls /
[13:04:13] <tsoome> and: show currdev
[13:05:09] <tsoome> and: lsdev -v (pastebin the outputs)
[13:05:20] <tsoome> then you can try: boot -k
[13:08:55] <javashin> ?
[13:09:05] <javashin> its in my real hardware
[13:09:29] <javashin> i extracted from the vm vhd
[13:10:02] <javashin> and put all the files inside a dataset which is in my zfsonlinux pool
[13:10:16] <javashin> make bootfs point to this dataset
[13:10:35] <javashin> and the loader64.efi tries to boot
[13:10:50] <javashin> but is arguing about some pci or something
[13:10:57] <javashin> or cant read the zfs
[13:11:07] <javashin> and just reboot
[13:11:47] <javashin> ok let me see
[13:11:50] <javashin> wait
[13:15:24] <toasterson> javashin (IRC): yes the boot archive has the disk paths cached/Hardcoded you will need to boot with a live image and fixup the boot archive on the pool

[13:18:30] <javashin> im not using rpool
[13:18:38] <javashin> my pool name is zroot

[16:52:56] <toasterson> However that phenomenon is not uncommon on current linux distros too
[16:54:02] <toasterson> AFAIK it is related to the card keeping the last picture garbage momorized and displaying that before the graphics stack is initialized. I don't know if that is fixable in a driver.

[18:06:22] <popgreen> javashin, I am not certain;which distribution of [openindiana] Are you trying to 'werk' with ?
[18:08:40] <javashin> i did last night before the new release got outa installation on qemu and i imported the rpool after upgraded the system on my gentoo extracted all the files from the virtual hd to a new dataset called zroot which is my current zpool zfsonlinux where i have freebsd and gentoo
[18:09:10] <javashin> zroot/ROOT/OpenIndiana the loader64.efi can see the pool but dont boot
[18:09:37] <javashin> i need to update the zfs cache on openindiana to make it boot and dont reinstall again
[18:10:11] <tsoome> so, you want to share the pool between bsd, linux and illumos?
[18:11:42] <javashin> im already doing this with linux and freebsd on a zfsonlinux pool
[18:12:06] <javashin> before openindiana was not able to read from it
[18:12:12] <javashin> yes
[18:12:43] <javashin> tsoome, whats the way to enter in the live image and update from rpool to zroot and make it boot ?
[18:13:10] <tsoome> at current state, it will not work. you can have it but after every time you visit it with other system, you will need to “rescue” it for illumos.
[18:14:08] <tsoome> you will need to boot from illumos boot iso/usb, import the pool to make sure the device names are fixed and then you can have native boot.
[18:14:19] <javashin> i cannot set the spl hostid to the same of linux and freebsd ?
[18:14:40] <javashin> all the time ?
[18:15:00] <tsoome> its not about hostid, its about device paths.
[18:15:29] <javashin> so every time i boot other os it will chage the device paths ?
[18:16:09] <tsoome> that depends on those systems if they update devid and phys_path properties.
[18:16:19] <tsoome> see zdb output.
[18:16:55] <javashin> phys_path: 'id1,enc@n3061686369656d30/type@0/slot@5/elmdesc@Slot_04/p5'
