[10:13:04] <Hans> Heya guys, anyone know where to find some good documentation on avs? every link I find seems to be to the old sun.com or blog.sun.com which isn't up anymore.
[10:17:07] <tsoome> did you check oracle documentation site?
[10:18:17] <tsoome> not sure if and how well the avs is covered there tho
[10:18:44] <Hans> I found some pages via google on oracle, but information was sparse to say the least... :/
[10:19:16] <Hans> although.....
[10:19:19] <tsoome> its kind of edge technology...
[10:19:45] <Hans> just did a new search, specifically for oracle.com, and there seems to be some info... :)
[10:20:50] <Hans> I found http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19421-01/820-2999/6neii0auo/index.html
[10:22:39] <tsoome> seems to be written cluster in mind, but ...
[10:22:41] *** Webhostbudd_ has quit IRC
[10:27:47] <Hans> Yeah, I think this might be a bit over the top for what I'm looking for and wanted to write a script, but thought to read in on it first before dismissing it. I have a system here with a main data pool and two swappable backup pools of which only 1 is connected at a specific time.. I want to backup rpool and the datapool to the backup pools in such a way that both backup pools will receive all the data (eg. monday connect bu1 and send the backup of monday,
[10:29:21] <Hans> both backup pools are also mirrors of two drives, so that should at least give me a fair amount of data security.

[17:54:11] <_khalfella_> I am asking because I see that the graphical installer does not give you the choice to install grub or not.
[17:56:00] <lblume> You need grub, and it will treat W7 well

[17:59:22] <lblume> IIRC, by default it installs only on the Solaris partition, not the disk, so you only need to activate W7 partition again to reenable its boot loader.

[21:32:52] <haj> tsoome: hmm .. I was kind of thinking to use a supermicro server for the snapshots.. ;)
[21:33:02] <haj> thanks

[23:38:55] <Hans> Hey guys, just watching a presentation on youtube from Bryan Cantrill on DTrace at Google Tech Talks. It's quite interesting, so figured I'd throw you the link. He talks quite fast and hectic, but worth the watch in my opinion.:

[23:42:24] <jirib> hi all
[23:42:44] <Hans> evening jirib :)
[23:42:50] <jirib> can i share kvm based virtual hosts (if in file image) between solaris and linux?
[23:43:24] <jirib> i would like to share a part of disk for virtual machines on a dual boot pc

[23:43:55] *** Seony has joined #openindiana
[23:44:18] <Hans> hmm, I only meddled with kvm a tiny bit, but not nearly enough to know that...
[23:44:37] <jirib> i'll try than
[23:45:35] <Hans> If I understand you correctly, you want to install qemu on oi, and on linux, and be able to run the same VM whether you've booted oi or linux?
[23:45:49] <jirib> yep
[23:45:54] <Hans> (qemu = qemu/kvm)
[23:46:52] *** alanc has quit IRC
[23:46:58] <Hans> Well, it could possibly be that you would need two config files for your virtual machines, as details like network connections might be named differently on oi and linux
[23:47:05] <jirib> oi by default uses ufs?
[23:47:11] <jirib> during installation...
[23:47:57] <Hans> or of course make a vnic on both machines with the exact same name..
[23:48:08] *** heldchen has joined #openindiana
[23:48:14] <jirib> hw addr you mean
[23:48:16] <jirib> np
[23:52:13] <Hans> might be mixing stuff up between xen and kvm, but doesn't kvm also uses scripts for its virtual machines containing all the specs of that virtual machine, including to which network it connects to reach the outside world? Then not only the MAC but also the name of that network would be the same, hence to make a bridge or virtual nic with that name on both machines...
