[16:56:56] <RoyK> tsoome: [UG]IDs are in sync with NIS, but NFSv4 is still rather troublesome, mapping use to -1/nobody
[16:57:07] <RoyK> tsoome: re-exporting with sec=sys helped, though
[16:57:14] <tsoome> that mapping happens on 2 cases
[16:57:27] <tsoome> 1 is roo squash
[16:57:30] <tsoome> root*
[16:57:39] <tsoome> 2 is domain name mismatch
[16:58:08] <tsoome> if the domains don't match, all users are mapped to nobody
[16:58:49] <tsoome> solaris defaults to dns domain from resolv.conf, current value is in /var/run_nfs4_comain and you can change it in /etc/default/nfs
[16:59:09] <tsoome> linux one is in /etc/idmap.conf i think
[17:00:11] <tsoome> (s11 is a bit different, but it does apply to OI)
[17:04:46] <heldus> tsoome: do you by chance happen to know how to prevent chmod on a nfs3/4 client removing the zfs acl? neither aclmode nor aclinherit seem to help, altough they do at least set the acl properly on newly created items...
[17:05:37] *** Marcus has quit IRC
[17:06:27] <RoyK> tsoome: thanks, I guess I'll need to do some more testing - works well with nfsv3 for now, though
[17:07:36] <tsoome> yea, v3 does not have domain concept at all. it was introduced in v4 to define domain for user name translations, same domain is expected to have the same usernames
[17:08:13] <RoyK> about root squash, the share has no_root_squash to that host
[17:08:24] <RoyK> and domainname is consistent across all machines
[17:08:28] <tsoome> note while you are not required to have synced uid/gid (unless you are using auth_sys), you still have to have users defined.
[17:09:25] <tsoome> root squash affects only root, normal user should see usernames as normally

[17:11:11] <tsoome> solaris cluster
[17:11:58] <tsoome> they have set poor thing up on top of lsi card mirror, and it proved to be an huge mistake.
[17:12:56] <tsoome> broken disk did confuse the hell out of the card causing node crashes and filesystem corruption (despite the ufs log)
[17:16:27] <tsoome> heldus: you can prevent people using chmod at all btw. since only owner can change permissions, change the owner of the file(s) :D
[17:20:26] <heldus> tsoome: yeah but then that also restricts too much from changing/removing files through nfs... for now i ended up with giving everything full access, which at least lets services access & modify the data. pretty suboptimal tho :)
[17:21:59] <heldus> in the end it's about the points noted here: http://lists.illumos.org/pipermail/developer/2011-February/001543.html - that is supposed to be undone in OI but it still seems kinda not correctly working
[17:23:25] <tsoome> well, the thing is that shared data management needs some sort of access graning anyhow - ither via group permissions or ACL. group can be enforced by g+s on directory and acl's via default acl inheritance.
