[01:20:29] <lewellyn> sergefonville: i think webstack still has an old nginx
[01:20:32] <lewellyn> smrt: explain webstack
[01:20:32] <smrt> Webstack is a unified collection of web technologies. It is what can be referred to as a "SAMP" configuration (but also much more!)... Lots of the Webstack technology is in the core operating system now, but there is also an experimental repository. For more information on Webstack, please see: http://sun.com/webstack/ http://opensolaris.org/os/project/webstack/
[01:21:21] <lewellyn> 0.8.31 is in their repo
[01:21:28] <lewellyn> http://pkg.opensolaris.org/webstack/en/index.shtml
[01:21:37] <lewellyn> http://pkg.opensolaris.org/webstack/p5i/0/nginx.p5i
[01:21:39] <tomww> isn't that horribly old?
[01:21:49] <lewellyn> tomww: "old stable" tree
[01:22:11] <lewellyn> er legacy stable, they call it
[01:22:21] <lewellyn> it's a few revisions behind on that even though
[01:23:00] <tomww> no one developt the webstack any further, thats what I mean. *or* am I wrong?!
[01:23:24] <lewellyn> tomww: afaik, you are correct. however, it's a pre-existing repo.
[01:23:35] <lewellyn> which is what seemed to be what is wanted
[01:24:30] <lewellyn> and if you want to build from source, it's easy too... http://wiki.nginx.org/Installing_on_Solaris
[01:25:51] <tomww> SFEnginx.spec :)
[01:26:13] <lewellyn> tomww: which has issues.
[01:26:21] <lewellyn> unfortunately, fixing those issues is non-trivial
[01:26:27] <tomww> remove issues?
[01:26:43] <lewellyn> one of these days, i intend to sit down and come up with a solution. it will require reworking sfe a bit, i think.
[01:26:47] <lewellyn> which is off-topic here :)
[01:27:48] <lewellyn> but yeah. that wiki page is how i build from source on S10 for my deployed packages. it also works fine on opensolaris.
[01:27:55] <lewellyn> let me know if you have issues with that approach
[01:28:44] <lewellyn> now to go pick up some fans.

It works fine in OpenSolaris 2009.06, which I currently have installed on it, and on the GRUB screen for the installation CD of OpenIndiana.

[06:58:11] <randomuser> i'm
[06:58:49] <randomuser> i'm just getting acquainted with oi, any recommended documentation?
[06:59:15] <bdha> The Sun/Oracle documentation will still hold true for just about everything.
[06:59:21] <bdha> Depends on what you're asking after?
[06:59:29] <randomuser> I'm coming from a linux background, so even the solaris stuff is new
[06:59:52] <bdha> Solaris man pages tend to not suck. That'll be new to you. :)
[06:59:57] <randomuser> haha
[07:01:22] <randomuser> i just dont want to pop in here with questions like "what's the device node naming scheme for disks?"
[07:02:12] <bdha> http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E19253-01/817-5093/index.html

[07:02:53] <bdha> http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E19963-01/index.html
[07:02:59] <bdha> A lot of that will be true for OI.
[07:03:13] <bdha> The System Admin Guides in particular are well worth reading.
[07:03:31] <bdha> When I started on S10 a few years ago, I consumed them in a week.
[07:03:37] <bdha> It was very helpful.

[07:38:11] <Crypticfortune> Hi. I'm trying to get apcupsd working on oi-r148. Direct USB connection inexplicably failed, so trying USB-serial-adapter -> UPS right now, which almost works, but seems to spew garbage at apctest...? like speed/parity is set wrong or something? any ideas?
[07:38:18] <Crypticfortune> trn: yeah, i hate that... >_<;;
[07:39:38] <Crypticfortune> the normal way to access serial ports in OI would be /dev/term/foo right? (my USB-serial adapter seems to show up as /dev/term/0 (the PCI id matches what came up in dmesg at least...)
[07:48:49] <Crypticfortune> ahhh /dev/cua/0 seems to work

[07:59:21] <randomuser> Crypticfortune, apc uses a different pinout
[08:00:37] <randomuser> i can't recall if its moving wires around, or if theres actually something in the special APC cable, but plugging in a normal cable KILLS my SmartUPS units
[08:00:55] <randomuser> (for serial, if it wasn't clear)

[21:53:33] <Enox4> Thank you very much :)
[21:55:15] <tomww> edgars: svcs -av | grep nfs
[21:55:34] <tomww> server FMRIs are still disabled?
[21:56:03] <tomww> normally with the first NFS share the services should be enabled automaticly, if I remember correctly
[21:57:34] <edgars> tomww: with the first NFS share the services should be enabled automaticly - thats right
[21:57:48] <edgars> but i have no such option
[21:58:05] <edgars> i have only samba share :/
[22:00:05] <tomww> ah, okay. I was with nfs. :-)
[22:00:30] <tomww> you wrote about nfs sharing.
[22:01:09] <tomww> if you login via ssh to the box (or open a terminal window)
[22:01:35] <tomww> you could give "zfs list" and then give the ususal zfs commands to share the zfs filesystem you want available on the local network
[22:02:07] <edgars> of course i can do it from cli
[22:02:17] <tomww> e.g. zfs set sharenfs=rw= at 192 dot 168.1.0/24 poolname/filesystemname
[22:02:42] <edgars> but i'm preparing this box for people without any unix skils :/
[22:02:45] <tomww> if napp-it can't then it's up ti them to provide such GUI elements...
[22:03:28] <edgars> tomww: in screen i see a such option to create nfs share but i have no :/

[23:37:55] <sergefonville> anyone have nginx with PHP running?
[23:38:15] <DeanoC> yep
[23:39:04] <sergefonville> i've been reading and it seems some believe that running as fastcgi as a different user is more secure?
[23:39:51] <sergefonville> do you agree?
[23:40:33] <DeanoC> its certainly can't help, php-fpm also has chroot capabilities
[23:40:41] <DeanoC> hurt*
[23:42:33] <sergefonville> is fpm better than running php-cgi with -b option?
[23:44:12] <randomuser> i made a zpool, set up filesytems and sharing, rebooted, and it's gone. looking for what to do to recover...
[23:47:08] *** axisys has quit IRC
[23:47:10] <sergefonville> it no longer shows up when you do zpool status?
[23:47:29] <tsoome> and zpool import wont report it?
[23:48:59] *** axisys has joined #openindiana
[23:49:31] <randomuser> i tried zpool import $POOLNAME
[23:49:46] <randomuser> rebooting to fiddle with the HBA bios, hang on
[23:51:57] <sergefonville> are the discs still available that make up the zpool?
[23:52:40] <randomuser> they should be, unless the device node assignments changed when I pulled out some other disks (which i doubt)
[23:54:25] <tsoome> disk name change does not affect pool availability, but can affect its import due to cache file in /etc/zfs
[23:54:52] <tsoome> thats why its good idea to check with pool import if it will find anything
[23:55:11] <randomuser> okay, so zpool import sees my pool with all elements online
[23:55:34] <tsoome> well, if the disks are there and pool is ok, it should see it
[23:55:52] <tsoome> if you did remove wrong disks, it cant see;)
[23:55:55] <randomuser> but `zpool import pool` fails
[23:56:15] <randomuser> with a core dump type error.
[23:56:16] <tsoome> read again what i just did wrote about cache file
[23:56:38] <tsoome> and check with just "zpool import", without pool name.
[23:57:05] <randomuser> so i should delete the cache?
[23:57:26] <tsoome> does zpool import tell you there is your pool?
[23:57:33] <randomuser> yes
[23:58:13] <tsoome> well, run devfsadm -Cv first to clear stale device names
[23:58:38] <tsoome> then yes, remove cache, reboot and try to import again
