I'm having problems using openal with ogg support in windows [11:30:42] <zarroba> we have an application developed in linux and ogg support works just fine [11:30:47] <zarroba> but in windows alIsExtensionPresent("AL_EXT_vorbis") returns false [11:30:53] <zarroba> I have ogg vorbis dlls in the application directory as well as openal dll [11:30:59] <zarroba> The open al I'm using is the 1.1 SDK instaler downloaded from open al website [11:31:06] <KittyCat> openal's ogg extension is deprecated [11:31:27] <KittyCat> you're better off using libvorbisfile to decode an ogg stream and streaming it with openal [11:32:02] <zarroba> ok. The version we used in liinux was 0.08 [11:32:08] <zarroba> and it worked fine [11:32:28] <zarroba> but in windows recent soundcards may not work under that version right? [11:32:56] <KittyCat> most people are moving to OpenAL Soft in Linux (because the current one is old and unmaintained) [11:33:32] <KittyCat> the Vorbis extension isn't available anymore, and you shouldn't rely on it (I don't think the official Windows drivers ever had it) [11:35:41] <KittyCat> I've been doing work with ALUT to get it to support Vorbis when the proper libs are available, but I don't know when that'll be done [11:38:46] <KittyCat> the linux versions of OpenAL are different from the Windows (and OSX) ones. [11:39:12] <KittyCat> although OpenAL Soft used the old Windows code to start from, they're all pretty much seperate code bases.
