[03:10:01] <Kurlon> How much data are you talking ENOMAD? Based on what you're describing, I'd be tempted to pull the drives from ye olde linux box, and mount them via a newer distro on modern hardware.
[03:14:11] <ENOMAD> Kurlon, ~24TB spread over a Linux server and a windows SANish thing
[03:14:42] *** natkin <natkin!~textual@2600:380:611d:cf37:7897:2893:5183:9553> has quit IRC (Ping timeout: 265 seconds)
[03:14:56] <ENOMAD> the data has to stay live at site A until we're completely copied to site B then we can go down for a weekend for a final network-based rsync (that will probably take a week to run given stat() times for that much data).
[03:15:03] <Kurlon> 3.2 hours at Gigabit speed, no overhead.
[03:15:15] <Kurlon> 6 hours at USB2 speed, no overhead.
[03:15:17] <ENOMAD> final rsync is over a WAN that has a 100mb limit
[03:15:30] <ENOMAD> and lots of overhead everywhere :(
[03:18:04] <Kurlon> Is the data in a volitile format? (In a database/etc) Or is it something that survives copying while the box is live?
[03:18:19] <ENOMAD> Mostly flat files.
[03:18:28] <ENOMAD> They surprised me with a mysql database last week.
[03:18:36] <ENOMAD> that will need to be dealt with on its own.
[03:19:33] <Kurlon> How far apart are the two sites physically?
[03:20:57] <ENOMAD> at a rough (very rough) guess, < 20 mi.
[03:21:04] <ENOMAD> probably more like 10mi.
[03:21:20] <ENOMAD> with at least 2 hills in between and no line of site possible.
[03:21:48] <Kurlon> So, if you're allowed to be down for a weekend, and the WAN is that limited, do the rsync locally then truck the drive to the new site?
[03:22:04] <ENOMAD> we'll be using USB drives.
[03:22:23] <ENOMAD> we can't remove the old hardware until the new stuff is fully vetted by the users.
[03:22:30] <ENOMAD> (don't ask.)
[03:25:02] <Kurlon> Is the link between sites secureD?
[03:25:41] <ENOMAD> not sufficiently. The data we're moving includes PHI so everything has to be encrypted in transit.
[03:31:21] <ENOMAD> Dinner time for me. I'll be back in the morning :)
[03:31:53] <Kurlon> Gah, 2.6.32 on that RH 6.5 box means even if you P2V, no good USB3 support.

[12:00:28] <benje> or an other way to add cert to /var/ldap database ;)
[12:08:19] <andyf> Is that related to setting up a directory server, or a client?

[19:41:14] <danmcd> What sort of customization do you seek?
[19:41:35] <danmcd> kayak basically takes a ZFS snapshot of an rpool and slaps it on a zpool.
[19:42:34] <andyf> I usually zfs send the kayak image to a local pool, then customise it by adding extra publishers, packages etc.
[19:44:04] <andyf> Here's an example script - https://paste.ec/paste/3ciO0A2n#DVGpkD0mwEF0ubqvmdOQPck5Q21BXIQzMDbm0behXNJ
[19:44:35] <andyf> but kayak also supports profiles as far as I remember, but I haven't used those
