[03:31:30] <ReemZ> hi, bit confused by how kernels are updated in Manjaro. I've also got Chakra and Antergos installed, both of which use pacman like Manjaro does (and I've had Arch installed but that was a while ago) and I'm a bit surprised by pacman's behaviour when wanting to update my kernel. the other two distros are on 4.6.something and Manjaro still on 4.4, and when issueing 'pacman -S linux' it wants to reinstall 4.4 instead of updating it to 4.6. why?
[03:33:56] <bad63r> ReemZ, manjaro updates your kenrle only on latest stabl version of your kernel version
[03:33:58] <ReemZ> reason I mention the other two distros is because they use the same package manager but show different behaviour: they both simply update to the latest available version
[03:34:02] *** manots <manots!~computer@24-217-91-243.dhcp.stls.mo.charter.com> has quit IRC (Remote host closed the connection)
[03:34:08] <bad63r> e.g. you have kernel 4.4
[03:34:13] <bad63r> he will update it to
[03:34:22] <bad63r> 4.4.2 and 4.4.3 and 4.4.4
[03:34:37] <bad63r> and if there is nto more updates and new kernel came
[03:34:44] <bad63r> it will stay on 4.4.4
[03:34:58] <ReemZ> yeah, that I noticed...kinda wondering why though, I expected it to just take it to the latest...
[03:34:59] <bad63r> until you manualy update to 4.5 or what ever
[03:35:07] <bad63r> ReemZ, bcs of stability
[03:35:18] <ReemZ> 'pacman -S linux46' ?
[03:35:35] <bad63r> you have gui to do that
[03:35:38] <bad63r> kinda not sure
[03:35:44] <bad63r> what command would be in terminal
[03:35:51] <ReemZ> I *never* GUI package management.
[03:35:52] <bad63r> I don't change it until i have to
[03:36:12] <bad63r> me too. just i don't use kernel switch or install too often
[03:36:28] <ReemZ> I like getting to know the CLI as good as I can, in case X fails at some point ;)
[03:36:52] <bad63r> you can use vim or lynx anytime
[03:36:52] <ReemZ> neither do I, actively that is, I'm used to 'pacman -Syyuu' including kernels ;)
[03:36:55] <bad63r> so no problem for me :P
[03:37:44] <ReemZ> so kernels are slotted in Manjaro and an LTS kernel is picked by default for stability reasons?
[03:38:15] <bad63r> No, it updates to latest posible version of kernel u picked to use
[03:38:37] <ReemZ> is there a way to change this behaviour in pacman (should I look at pacman.conf for this?) or should I just keep an eye on the announcements for new kernels?
[03:38:37] <bad63r> 4.4 kernle was just e.g.
[03:38:48] <bad63r> duno

[16:08:51] <manjaroDeepin160> in french mean the system is up nothig to do
[16:09:09] <vexare> you probably don't have lshw installed
[16:09:27] <vexare> lshw is ubuntu i think
[16:10:14] <vexare> try pacman -S lshw
[16:10:15] <mike-zal> but there is lshw in manjaro repos. I just installed it, works well
[16:10:24] <vexare> yes, it's not on the default iso
[16:10:28] <manjaroDeepin160> i didi it # pacman -S lshw
[16:11:20] <mike-zal> and it didn't work. even pacman -Syyu showed some error so it means there are some issues but can't know which ones because I don't know french

[16:13:12] <vexare> i've never used lshw anyway
[16:13:36] <mike-zal> anyway, pasic pacman commands are not working so nevermind lshw. there is defenitely some problem.
[16:14:02] <manjaroDeepin160> yes i am as root not need a root
[16:14:17] <manjaroDeepin160> and i installed the lshw as you told me
[16:14:51] <manjaroDeepin160> how i can check my iso by command, the iso is on my pendrive
[16:15:31] <mike-zal> I usw krusader for checking iso's but I'm sure there are many other ways to do it. I just prefer krusader as it is my main file manager
[16:16:40] <mike-zal> so either I download md5 file and use compare utullity with the file or let the krusader find out md5 number and compare it manually with the one I saw on the site
[16:17:34] <mike-zal> also it sometimes happens that iso is all right but the install gets corrupted and system shows various malfunctiomns that no one else have
[16:18:15] <mike-zal> the only way is to reinstall system and those issues are gone. if they are not, then it's usual either bad iso, if it's not, then it's a hardware issue (incompatibility).
[16:19:17] <mike-zal> correct manjaro install should work out of the box without problems, but for some cpmputers that is not the case and manjaro always works bad.
[16:20:50] <manjaroDeepin160> i ll try check the .iso checksum i think i didi it but now i am not sure
