[00:28:31] <IIsiHaiku> I tried reinstalling, then killing Einsteinium's teams, then uninstalling. This partly worked.
[00:29:09] <IIsiHaiku> It left the EinsteiniumBootscript.sh in /config/settings/boot/launch.
[00:31:44] <IIsiHaiku> Looks like this is known: in that script, it looks for Einsteinium daemon and engine, and if either is not found, it throws a notification with instruction to manually delete the script.

[19:28:47] <humdinger> here goes nothing...
[19:30:10] <IIsiHaiku> character spacing looked better, but contrast was often worse.
[19:30:38] <humdinger> with newer freetype?
[19:30:43] <IIsiHaiku> Should look good on high-DPI, though.
[19:30:45] <IIsiHaiku> Yeah.

[19:31:54] <IIsiHaiku> Naught todo with panel brightness.
[19:32:21] <humdinger> I mean, I cannot judge contrast unbiased
[19:33:37] <IIsiHaiku> 2.7 doesn't snap solid to grid as much, so fewer pixels are solid colour (e.g. black on white, in the most common case), so shapes tend to be fuzzier.
[19:34:02] <IIsiHaiku> But it depends on the font. Some don't seem harmed at all.
[19:34:32] <humdinger> there's supposed to be some tweaks in Haiku missing yet to improve things.
[19:34:50] <humdinger> the noto font doesn't look bad anyway.

[19:36:35] <Freso> I've been thinking about having tasks for ListenBrainz integration in whatever music/media players/software I can think of (that already has scrobbling support).
[19:36:43] <IIsiHaiku> I found that switching to a typeface with narrower characters, less character spacing, and much less height, then decreasing point size to 9 helped some older apps fit their text in Haiku's allocated space.

[19:38:22] <IIsiHaiku> But then I was reminded of trying to fit as much as possible on-screen during '90s, by making everything as tiny as possible well still being mostly legible
[19:38:29] <mmu_man> Freso: yes, we have MediaPlayer (native, using the Media Kit), VLC, and some others
[19:38:52] <Freso> Does MediaPlayer have scrobbling support?
[19:39:14] <IIsiHaiku> I think not.
[19:39:39] <mmu_man> There is already a GCI task to add some features to MediaPlayer, not sure which
[19:40:30] <mmu_man> hmm can't find it, maybe it wasn't created
[19:40:44] <mmu_man> OTOH, we already use extended attributes to store metadata
[19:40:50] <mmu_man> including rating IIRC
[19:41:04] <mmu_man> we have a cddb lookup tool, could be extended

[19:43:50] <Freso> I think we have deprecated our FreeDB "mirror"/gateway, so using MB data via the FreeDB protocol will Soon™ go away (ie., when we deem that updating it to a new schema change release is more hassle than not having it - or the machine it lives on dies).
[19:44:07] <Freso> *machine a.k.a. VM
[19:44:34] <Freso> So yes, having some kind of MB lookup would be nice. :)
[19:44:47] <Freso> Does libdiscid work under Haiku?

[19:45:28] <mmu_man> porting would be a first task :)
[19:45:38] <Freso> That could be a first step if it doesn't.
[19:45:43] <mmu_man> hmm does it needs ioctls to read infos from the drive ?
[19:46:06] <Freso> (OTOH, it's C code that runs on *nix, Win, and Mac OS X, so it might already Just Work™ elsewhere.)
[19:46:09] <Freso> No clue.

[19:46:36] <mmu_man> shouldn't be that hard

[19:46:57] <mmu_man> but our old CDPlayer app could read the TOC so...
[19:47:43] <mmu_man> oh wait, we have media-libs/libdiscid in haikuports \o/
[19:47:54] <Freso> Well, there you go. :)

[19:55:28] <Freso> Okay. So once libdiscid has been ported, it might be possible to extend the current disc lookup by hooking into libdiscid to get a MusicBrainz DiscID and look that up in MB.
[19:56:08] <Freso> It's definitely less than GSoC size, but might need to be chopped up a bit to be GCI size tasks.

[19:59:08] <mmu_man> Your port should be submitted upstream as a pull-request to their github.
