[14:17:16] <egrath> Hi, anyone has a hint on how to force a specific video resolution? I have an Intel NM10 based motherboard which has it's display connected using HDMI but unfortunately Haiku only gives me 1280x800 as a valid resolution - the display is capable of doing 1680x1050. How can i force these settings?
[14:18:20] <PulkoMandy> you can try using the command line tool screenmode to force a resolution using a modeline
[14:18:54] <PulkoMandy> but, if Haiku does this, it may be because it's using the VESA video driver, in this case the only way to fix this would be replacing your computer VESA BIOS...

[22:26:46] <Anarchos> how to get gcc4 ?
[22:27:33] <puckipedia> Anarchos: Running a gcc2 hybrid?
[22:27:52] <Anarchos> puckipedia no idea ! I thought so, but not sure...
[22:27:58] <puckipedia> Try setgcc x86
[22:28:06] <puckipedia> It should open a shell in gcc4 land
[22:28:13] <puckipedia> Or, haikuporter package_x86
[22:29:04] <hamishm__> I think it's setarch x86 now
[22:29:10] <puckipedia> setarch, yeah
[22:29:20] <puckipedia> I confuse the two the whole time
[22:35:18] <Anarchos> setarch x 86 ----> gcc 2.95.3
[22:35:28] <puckipedia> setarch ¨x86¨
[22:36:36] <Anarchos> thanks puckipedia

[22:40:17] <umccullough> you can use getarch to find out which one is currently set
[22:40:31] <umccullough> and set it back to gcc2 with setarch x86_gcc2

[22:52:14] <axeld> Anarchos: you don't have to use the compatibility stack, but it is a good idea to support their ioctls, as you won't get it to run otherwise (ie. you would have to port the wpa_supplicant and our network API to your new API otherwise)
[22:53:01] <axeld> Anarchos: AFAIK Colin never made it to the native stack implementation
[22:53:19] <irker-375> haiku.master: korli * hrev46848 [1 commit] http://cgit.haiku-os.org/haiku/log/?qt=range&q=9f11100+%5E0ba833f
[22:53:20] <irker-375> 9f11100: Update freetype package for x86 and x86_gcc2.
[22:54:54] <Anarchos> axeld ok

[22:57:42] <Anarchos> axeld i still don't understand th concept of ioctl :)
[22:58:02] *** jua_ has quit IRC
[22:58:30] <axeld> Anarchos: it's a generic driver <-> userland interface
[22:59:07] <axeld> ioctl just hands some system or custom defined command to your driver, along with a structure or value defining the actions
[23:00:10] <Anarchos> ok
[23:00:13] <axeld> Ie. when your driver gets a made up "GET_AUTHOR" ioctl, you know that the buffer that comes with it is a buffer where you want to place the name of the driver's author
[23:00:36] <Anarchos> for now i am just replacing the linux specific part with haiku-ish code...
[23:00:38] <axeld> And the WLAN stack comes with quite a number of defined ioctls
[23:01:05] <axeld> For example to retrieve the existing wireless networks, to trigger a new scan, to join a network, etc.
[23:03:04] <Not-001> [haikuports.cross] Midar pushed 1 commit to master [+0/-0/±14] https://bitbucket.org/haikuports/haikuports.cross/commits/

[23:06:23] <Anarchos> axeld by the wlan stack, you mean the freebsd one ?
[23:09:30] <axeld> yes
[23:09:52] <axeld> we don't have any other at the moment. And there is no plan to change this as it's a lot of work with little gain
[23:10:11] *** puckipedia is now known as puckipedia|away
[23:10:14] <axeld> Unless we ever have more development power than FreeBSD. So probably never :-)
