[01:21:27] <bryan986> Hi, does anyone know why some clients with 100% of pieces of a torrent send one bitfield message followed by a bunch of have messages to fill in the remainder of the bitfield? Nothing wrong with that but just curious...
[01:22:56] <DeHackEd> some ISPs will take an all 0xff bitfield as "he's a seed, let's block his connection"
[01:23:14] <DeHackEd> so we send incomplete bitfields and then send HAVE packets to fill up the gaps, just to ruin their lives.
[01:25:03] <bryan986> Interesting... thanks!
[01:25:21] <DeHackEd> I think it was comcast if I recall correctly, but don't quote me on that

[17:02:03] <Pip> Hello, can I do port forwarding via any tools ?
[17:02:03] *** kwinz2 has joined #bittorrent
[17:02:15] <Pip> I don't want to configure it via router
[17:04:05] <The_8472> if your router supports UPnP some clients can do it automatically. otherwise you'll have to do it on the router itself
[17:04:25] <The_8472> you still might have to enable upnp on the router though
[17:04:45] <The_8472> so yeah, you probably won't get around configureing it
[17:06:47] *** Olddog has joined #bittorrent
[17:08:31] <Pip> The_8472: what about iptables ?
[17:08:58] <Pip> It's like a built-in firewall of linux right ?
[17:09:14] <Pip> Usually port forwarding has nothing to do with it right ?
[17:10:25] *** Olddog has left #bittorrent
[17:12:18] <Pip> But I use dynamic IP with Bittorrent, is that good diea ?
[17:17:11] <kjetilho> Pip: doesn't matter much, unless it's *very* dynamic. ie. you change IP several times per day
[17:17:44] <Pip> okay, then how to give the IP address and configure the port map in router box ?
[17:17:49] <Pip> Which ip to give ?
[17:18:15] <DWKnight> your internal IP can and SHOULD be set static for port forwarding on many routers
[17:18:43] <DWKnight> (the one on your computer, not the one on your internet connection, they're separate if you have a router)
[17:18:58] <kjetilho> (if you have a router which does NAT)
[17:19:57] <Pip> So I should use static IP in the LAN right ?
[17:20:04] <Pip> Instead of DHCP
[17:22:04] <The_8472> DHCP can assign you a static IP too, bound to the MAC address of your NIC
[17:29:46] *** MassaRoddel has quit IRC
[17:36:04] <Pip> HOw to test if the port is mapped successfully on bittorrent ?
[17:37:01] <DeHackEd> some clients have an indicator in the form of a coloured light, green being success and yellow being failure (or no result yet)
[17:38:32] <Pip> I mean the software Bittorrent
[18:02:32] <DWKnight> what version?
